♥ Sevgiler ♥
How to Plan Your Meals and Food Prep!
Food prep is one of my top priorities in regards to my health and weight loss. Prepping food keeps me organized, never without a meal, saves time and money, and keeps me on track. "Winging it" when it comes to your meals is not something I recommend anyone doing if they are trying to lose weight and life a clean, healthy lifestyle.
It took a bit of trial and error, like everything I do in life. You will get better at this once you keep you doing it. For example: I like carbohydrates at night. Thus I schedule more carbs then than I do during the day. Sometimes people think I am crazy. However, I know me and I know my body. Consuming complex carbohydrates in the evening has never caused me to gain weight, ever. I have been eating carbohydrates almost every evening since I started my new weight loss journey in November of 2013 and I am down almost 45 pounds. I train extremely hard in the evenings so when I finish, I need my carb fix. Carbs keep me full, cut cravings, and help me sleep better. You may be different. You may find you want to switch your meals and their times - it is all about what works for you most all of, keeps you satisfied.
Believe it or not; food planning is simple.
What I do:
1) I always have my planner. I love this thing. It's a $10 one from Target.
2) Decide what I want my meals to be. You can see those written in the blue marker. I write them out and which meal number I want it to be.
3) List the certain ingredients I want the meal to contain.
4) Put a check mark by the items I already have it at home and will not have to purchase.
5) Make a grocery list on the oppsoite side.
6) Designate a day to cook everything - except my dinners. Most times I make those nightly.
7) Put everything in tupperware. Grab and go; heat and eat.
Side note: I do not include fruits and vegetables as part of my daily caloric intake. I consider those "freebie's". I know fresh fruits can contain natural sugars but those have never deterred me from losing weight. I view those as natural energy and craving busters.
I also do this with my workouts and training regimen. It is just as important to plan my workouts as it is my food. I do not write all of the details in my planner as I have a detailed "Weekly Nutrition and Training Plan" I share with you guys.
Lastly, I do this with my finances. Purchasing a planner or even a notebook is a great tool to have to keep you on track. You can never be too organized in my opinion. It is also great to look back on how far you have come, compare bills, and remember recipes, etc.
How do you prep your food? Leave a comment if you have ideas to share or have a question!
APRIL 3 = Killer Tornadoes Strike Ohio
The Outbreak of tornadoes of April 3, 1974 - over 40 years ago - is burned into the memories of all of us who lived through it. It was the only tornado which was visible from my home in Cincinnati. It wiped out the city of Xenia, Ohio, and made a mess on South Rd. and in Saylor Park. And in the big picture it was one of the most deadly severe weather episodes on record in the continental United States. It by far surpassed tornadoes that came either before or since in terms severity, longevity and extent, until the April 2011 tornadoes. It left a death toll of over 300, this outbreak was the deadliest since the 1930's.
The Tornado Rips Through Saylor Park in Cincinnati
There were a series of tornadoes that earlier struck parts of southern Indiana from north of Brandenburg, Kentucky, into southwest Ohio. The funnel cloud pictured above in a photo by Andrew Mac Gregor was then crossing the Ohio River. It began shortly before 4:30 pm (Central time) in southeastern Indiana in Ohio County north of Rising Sun near the Ohio River. It then tore through Boone County, Kentucky, before getting to it's worst in the western suburbs of Cincinnati. I was at a friend's home when it
was going on so I missed actually seeing it. But it was in fact visible from my home on Lischer Ave. in the Western Hills section of Cincinnati. This sent everyone in our home to the basement. The biggest wreck came in Sayler Park at the western edge of the city. Homes were wiped out in a hilly area near a lake, and boats were thrown and destroyed. A large floating restaurant barge on the Ohio River was lifted up and torn from its moorings, and wound up being recovered several miles downstream. This tornado was shown on TV by Channel 9 WCPO which showed the tornado live to thousands of citizens off the region during special news broadcasts. The storm moved on to the northeast passing though the neighborhoods of Bridgetown (above), Mack, Dent and Delhi. Three people were killed in Hamilton County, and over 100 people were injured.
Xenia, Ohio is Flattened
The city of Xenia, Ohio was nearly wiped out by this treacherous monster storm. Xenia was not very large to begin with, with a population of 27,000. But in fifteen minutes, this small community of proud hard-working citizens had seen a twister cut through 3.5 miles of its center on a path which was 1.5 mile wide. 34 people were killed and over 500 were injured. "We had about thirty seconds warning before it hit." said one resident. "All you could hear was wind the crashes and people praying." Peggy Schmidt went onto her front porch with her daughter Michele and saw the funnel coming towards her home as it cut through property in its way. "It looks like it's full of birds." her daughter said. "Those aren't birds." Peggy said. "That's debris!!" Mrs. Schmidt and her daughter ran inside. "We went into the downstairs bedroom and opened the sliding glass door, like they said to do so there wouldn't be any suction. Then we laid
between the two beds. At the last moment we pulled a cover over us." The wind then exploded the sliding glass doors, and filled the air with a deadly shower of glass particles. The cover saved the Schmidt' from serious injury, but the entire second floor of their home had been sucked off. Six of the city's twelve schools were had been reduced to rubble; as can be seen in the photo of Xenia High School above, there was nothing left. Five of the town's dozen supermarkets had been literally obliterated. Governor John J. Gilligan declared Xenia to be a disaster area, and ordered 250 National Guardsmen into the area to help. President Richard M. Nixon visited the scene and said: "I would say in terms of destruction, just total devastation, this is the worst I have seen." This disaster spurred the passage in Congress of the Federal Disaster Relief Act. This eventually became the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Spring Apron Inspiration
I thought we could use a little inspiration today! It is a very dreary day here. I shouldn't complain, at lest it is April Showers and not an April Snowstorm. Hope you enjoy!

Weekend Recap and Friday 5 - All in 1!
Since I have yet to write about my long weekend that ensued, I thought now would be a good time. It's Little Friday and I need to catch up. Health and fitness posts are most important, so these silly life ones can wait, right?
My weekend started at noon on Friday. I went to my doctor for my B12 injection and weighed. (1) I lost 3 pounds last week. My total down since November 25th, 2013 is now 43.2 pounds. I am beyond thrilled. That is the best way I know to start a weekend. After that I went home to grab my suitcase, feed Marty, and go to Kelly's apartment. From there we made a pit stop at Trader Joe's for our necessities and hit the road. The picture below speaks volumes about Kels and I, and our priorities. Ha ha! We were driving 2 1/2 hours to Charleston, SC to spend a couple of nights with her grandmother. Kelly and I stopped being friends long ago; we're sisters now. Her family is my family. Stocked with our wine and snack bars we were ready for a dance party in the car and nonstop laughs.
(2) The first part of the weekend was very fun in Charleston, SC. Friday evening was mellow; complete with a delicious dinner at Logan's Roadhouse, frozen yogurt, and lots of catching up and life talk. I have not had frozen yogurt in so long. my taste buds were going wild.
Kelly and I awoke Saturday morning to a hot, sunny day. It was supposed to rain, but it didn't. We made the best of it. We had a beautiful run through downtown and came back to her grandmother's house to do my Hot Mess Express workout in her driveway. It was hilarious. Her grandmother lives downtown, on a busy street so us working out outside was quite the show.
After our workout, we were drenched. It was warm in Charleston, but oh so muggy. It was a workout and sauna all in one. We took showers and got ready then spent the day shopping. What else is better? After shopping for a few hours, we worked up an appetite. We went downtown and had delicious, fresh pizza from a place called "Evo". We had a vegan pizza and a garlic and mushroom pizza. The ingredients were high quality, fresh, and the crust was gluten free. I love eating at restaurants that serve high quality food.
After our early dinner we explored a little then went back to her grandmother's to freshen up. Our initial plan was to go see the movie "God's Not Dead". We went and waited in line only to find out it was sold out. We just decided to go to a wine bar called "Accents". It was such a fun place. We had a bottle Italian of champagne outside.
Sunday morning we were on the road by 9 AM. I had a busy day as did Kelly. When we arrived back in Charlotte we forced ourselves to go to the gym. Our gym is right off of the interstate, so we had no excuse not to go. We kicked butt then went to lunch, then we went back to her apartment so I could get my car. I spent the rest of the afternoon unpacking, cleaning, and getting ready.
(3) I thought Sunday evening was going to be one of the best nights I have had in a long time. I could not have been more wrong. I had been "talking" and was going out with a guy that I have known for years and even briefly dated years ago. We have been recently back in touch and things seemed to be amazing. He has grown up as have I, he is extremely into fitness, and he knew how to make me feel like I was the most incredible woman in the entire world. We have talked SO much and he was beginning the feel like my best friend. Y'all, it was disaster. He text on his phone literally the entire time, he was so hard to talk to, and I was beyond uncomfortable. It was nothing that I thought it would be. NOTHING. It gets worse and it ended up being an awful, awful night. Lies on top of lies and lets just say he apparently has a bad reputation with women. I was so disappointed. I was hurt by him, but I was more disappointed in myself. I have been single almost 6 months and took all that time to focus on myself with my career and weight loss journey, and honestly haven't given any men a chance. But I thought this guy was different. Wrong, Liz. WRONG. I am such a fool sometimes.
But you know what, I at least looked damn good that night.
Sunday night I slept horrible. I can't pretend that I didn't. I was upset, angry, and hurt. Luckily, I was off Monday. I had already planned to take that day off for him. I decided to push myself and make the best of the sunny, warm, beautiful day. I went hiking -- my happy place. I walked fast, I walked hard, I didn't stop, and I felt extremely strong. There was not really anyone there which was wonderful. I sat on the edge of the mountain, cleared my mind, and talked to God. (4) I did 9 miles and climbed the mountain top to bottom in record time.
I am very happy since I have made tremendous progress with my hiking. I feel myself getting strong everyday. But I can't lie, it's been a hard week. I have been very busy at work, which is great. I have been pushed hard at the gym, which is great, but I am tired. That emptiness kind of tired. Disappointment, in my opinion, hurts worse than anger or sadness sometimes. Night turns to day and life goes on. I am 24 years old and I am sure in my years to come I will have many more let downs. I am just a VERY careful, picky person when it comes to dating and when it blows up in my face, I feel like the biggest idiot in the world. There is not any use in speaking of this ever again but no one can make it better, so I am leaving it in my past.
(5) Thank goodness for a ton of sunshine and weather in 80's this week. I have enjoyed breaking out my spring clothes. I have also been able to rock my new wedges.
Linking up today, join the fun.
