HELIOS CRASH MEMORIALS, ALMOST 15 YEARS TO THE DAY

 in-cyprus 9 August 2020 - by Constantinos Tsintas

Memorials for 16 Paralimni residents, killed in the Helios Airways crash on August 14th 2005, were held today in the town’s main church of Saint George.

The service was attended by relatives, friends and Paralimni residents, with the government represented by Innovation and Digital Policy deputy minister Kyriakos Kokkinos.

Wreaths were laid in the church due to Covid-19 restrictions, by the government, the municipality, political parties, police, the National Guard and surrounding communities.

121 people were aboard the HCY522 flight to Athens, 115 passengers and 6 crew.

The plane crashed on a hill at Grammatiko Attikis, just outside the Greek capital.
