Eleven cases were reported today in the free areas of Cyprus. The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,755 laboratory diagnoses identified 11 new cases of COVID-19 disease.
In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:
-Of 1,619 samples taken as part of the passenger and repatriated checks, 5 cases were identified.
-Of 125 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 4 cases were identified.
-Of 621 samples taken through a private initiative, 2 cases were identified.
The 11 cases were identified as follows:
- 2 x private initiative
1. This is a person who came from the USA on 16/8 and took the test before receiving his quarantine, in accordance with the relevant Decree. He tested positive for the virus but No Symptoms.
2. This is a person who took the test privately because her employer requested it. She has no symptoms.
- 4 x contact tracing:
1. One is the spouse of a case. He's got symptoms.
2. The 2nd person is in contact with his parents (announced on 19/8 and 21/8 and had a travel history). He's got symptoms.
3. The other 2 persons are from the family environment of the same case. They have symptoms.
- 5 x flights:
1. The 3 people came from Budapest (Hungary) on 26/8. The two are related to each other. No one has any symptoms.
2. The other 2 came from Debrecen (Hungary) on 26/8. They have nothing to do with each other.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 166 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
From samples taken at the barricades, 96 laboratory tests were completed,
Of the samples taken by the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 2 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
From a program carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order for the control of staff working on the premises of the Courts, we had a result for 1 sample, and
From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 125 laboratory tests were completed.
Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,467.
In addition, 4 COVID-19 patients are being treated in a ward at Famagusta General Hospital, while one patient is being treated in the Increased Care Unit of the reference hospital. He was discharged yesterday. In the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, one patient remains intubated.
