EIGHT NEW CASES TODAY

Eight new cases of coronavirus out of a total of 4,315 laboratory tests announced today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 139 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 1 case was identified,
  • Of 2,199 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 770 samples taken as part of the random sampling of 10,000 people, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 855 samples taken through a private initiative, 3 cases were identified, 2 of which have a recent travel history.
  • Of 169 samples taken under the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 2 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory diagnoses were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken at the barricades, 101 laboratory tests were completed, and
  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 82 laboratory tests were carried out.

Based on the data so far, the total number of positive cases is 1,359.

In addition, a COVID-19 patient is treated in a ward at Famagusta General Hospital. In addition, an intubated patient who was transferred yesterday from the reference hospital is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
