Japanese ruthlessness during the Second World War

Japanese brutality during the Second World War is legendary. It was perhaps because the Japanese soldiers believed that whatever inhuman acts they did were for good of Japan, for their Emperor. Something like the mentality of the Wehrmacht soldier (especially the SS troops) in Germany. No one else or nothing else mattered.
