CORONAVIRUS - OVER HALF OF ALL CASES LIMASSOL BASED

More than half of the 1,800 coronavirus cases recorded during the last two weeks of October were in Limassol district, said the latest report by the health ministry’s epidemiological surveillance unit, released on Friday.

According to the report, 1,800 cases were diagnosed between October 18 and 31. Of these, 1,046 (58.1per cent) were reported in the Limassol district, 273 in Paphos, 187 in Nicosia, 109 in Larnaca, 71 in Famagusta  while 114 were reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.

The report said that the median age of all cases diagnosed during that period was 33 years.

By age group, cases included 289 infants, children and adolescents aged 0 to 17 years-old, 1,307 adults aged 18 to 59 years, 186 persons aged 60 and older. Information was not available for 18 cases.

By place of exposure, 6.7 per cent of cases were imported, 85.3 per cent were locally acquired while place of exposure is unknown for 8 per cent of cases.

Of the 1,800 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases 328 received hospital care. The median age of hospitalised cases was 59 and were mainly males.

As of October 31, a total of 4,422 Covid-19 cases and 33 deaths were reported. Covid-19 was the underlying cause of death for 26 of these cases. The average time from date of sampling to death was 11 days. The median age of all deaths was 76. According to the report, 12 deaths were reported among residents in Larnaca, eight in Paphos, five each in Nicosia and Limassol, and three in Famagusta.
