224 NEW CASES FRIDAY

224 new cases of coronavirus out of a total of 3,693 laboratory diagnoses, the Ministry of Health announced Friday.

In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:

  • Of 729 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 97 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,462 samples taken through a private initiative, 80 cases were identified.
  • Of 286 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 19 cases were detected.
  • Of 825 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 16 cases were identified.
  • Of 51 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special team control through the Public Health Clinics, 7 cases were identified.
  • Of 159 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 100 samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP in Associations participating in its competitions, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 81 samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 3 cases were identified.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 5,557.

In addition, 54 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, including five in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, six patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the Nicosia General Hospital, while another 10 people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.
