Filenews 30 October 2020 -by Dora Christodoulou

The President of the Republic held tonight the opening of the Pafos Innovation Institute, a unique academic project in Cyprus which is the product of the cooperation of the Municipality of Paphos with the renowned Reichman University (IDC Herzliya) of Israel. By formalizing the functioning of the academic institution, the city enters a new era and invests in innovation and education.

Both President Anastasiades and Mayor Phaedon Phaedon pointed out in their greetings that with projects of this scope Paphos creates a third pillar of economic activity, next to the pillars of tourism and construction, so that it can absorb young scientists and become a regional academic center.

They described the project launched tonight as one of the most important projects in Cyprus, since these kinds of projects open new avenues and new perspectives in cities, societies and create a positive impact throughout the country.

The opening program began with an Academic Workshop by distinguished Israeli Professors and Diplomats on "Academia New Frontiers" and continued with greetings from Mayor Paphos Phaedon Phaedon and Mayor of israel's sister city Herzliya Moshe Fadlon. This was followed by the speech of IDC University President and Founder Professor Uriel Reichman and illustrated greetings from Israeli Minister of Higher Education Zeev Elkin and Israeli State President Reuven Rivlin.

The programme culminated in the speech by the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and the unveiling of the opening plaque.

In the context of the event, an honorary plaque was also awarded to The Company Korantina Homes, with compensatory measures and the sponsorship of which the Institute's facilities were erected.
