ONE DEATH AND TWENTYNINE NEW CASES TODAY

The death of a female patient, aged 90, with underlying diseases who was hospitalized in the Increased Care Unit of Famagusta General Hospital as well as 29 new cases of COVID-19 disease announced today by the Ministry of Health.

The final cause of death of the 90-year-old is COVID-19. Therefore, the total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients is 30, and deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 are 23, 16 men and 7 women, with an average age of 72 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,532 laboratory diagnoses identified 29 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 179 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 8 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,414 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 5 cases were identified.
  • Of 208 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 873 samples taken through a private initiative, 9 cases were identified.
  • Of 293 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 76 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 4 cases were identified.
  • Of 281 samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions, 1 case was identified.

In addition, the laboratory examination was carried out for 208 samples taken under the control programme of pupils, teachers and school staff, without the detection of a case.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,876.

In addition, six people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit. One patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital, where three patients are being treated intubated.
