WHO - COVID-19 VACCINE COULD BE READY BY END OF 2020

A vaccine against Covid-19 could be ready by the end of the year, the head of the World Health Organisation said today, without going into details.

WHO Director-General Tedros Antanom Gebregeus called for a show of solidarity and political commitment from all leaders to ensure the equal distribution of vaccines when they are available.

"We will need vaccines and there is hope that by the end of the year we may have a vaccine. There is hope," Tedros noted, in his post concluding the WHO Executive Council meeting, which examined the international community's response to the pandemic.

"Especially for vaccines and other products being processed, the most important tool is political commitment by our leaders, especially in the equal distribution of vaccines," he stressed.

"We need each other, we need solidarity and we need all the energy we have to fight the virus," stressed the Director-General of the World Health Organization.
