Historian Anna Maragou's phrase "a terrible day" entitles the British "Guardian" report on the obscene fiesta of the occupying regime and Turkey in the enclosed city of Famagusta.
According to her, for the first time in 46 years, Turkish Cypriots were allowed to enter the beach of Varosia, in a "questionable" move. Hundreds passed through the makeshift "gate", controlled by the pseudo-police ("Turkish Cypriot police", writes the Guardian) and walked on a new asphalt to the beach.
"The street was full of tapes to prevent pedestrians from entering the crumbling houses and premises," it noted. Subsequently, it is reported that the area the Greek Cypriot inhabitants of the enclosed city were displaced after the Turkish invasion and the area was placed under Turkish military control.
In the report, statements by the poet Kyriakos Charalambidis are used in the "Associated Press" and the Historian-Archaeologist Anna Maragou. The protest event at the Deryneia roadblock is also mentioned.
