EXAMINATIONS FOR PROFESSIONAL DRIVING LICENCES

Filenews 12 October 2020 - by Petros Theoharidis

There is a great deal of interest in the upcoming examinations for professional licences for bus, truck and taxi drivers, scheduled by the Department of Road Transport, with candidates expected to far exceed the numbers of previous similar examinations.

The fact that examinations for professional taxi, truck and bus driving licences are relatively sparse - about once a year - brings large numbers of stakeholders, as there is relatively high demand for professional truck and bus drivers and comparatively satisfactory fees are offered.

This series of examinations, however, is also of a different nature, since they will also include all candidates for the three categories of professional driving licences that have been interested and registered for last March's examinations, which were postponed due to the restrictive measures brought about by the pandemic.

It should be noted that the previous series of examinations for professional drivers was in March-April 2019, which on the one hand has created serious needs in the labour market and on the other hand has significantly increased the waiting lists for interested parties, most of whom are also an opportunity for professional rehabilitation.

In order to participate in written examinations for the acquisition of a certificate of professional competence for the categories of bus and truck as well as that of taxi drivers, applications must be submitted to the funds of the Department of Road Transport in all cities, no later than Friday 23.10.2020.

For written examinations of professional taxi drivers the fee is €70, while for the examinations of a professional licence for a truck and bus, the examination fee is €34.17, while a further €34.17 will have to be paid by those who pass the examinations to proceed with a practical driving test.

The TOM, in its announcements, specifies that those candidates who had registered for the examinations of the three professional categories of drivers scheduled for last March and postponed due to COVID –19 do not need to submit another application and will be notified by the Department of Road Transport.
