SECOND WORST WEEK SINCE THE ONSET OF THE PANDEMIC

 Filenews 12 October 2020

The week ended yesterday was the second worst in terms of confirmed cases of COVID-19 disease since the onset of the pandemic in Cyprus. The 20 incidents announced yesterday bring the total number of cases for the week of 5 to 11 October to 182 cases.

The worst week in terms of the total number of positive cases since the onset of the pandemic was the week of March 30 to April 5 when a total of 232 cases were reported. This was followed by a severe lockdown which resulted in a significant reduction in transmission.

Transmission of the disease increased in early August (27/7-2/8) with 102 cases in one week.

Since the beginning of September the number of cases has steadily increased to reach 182 patients in the past week.
