EASTER SECURITY


The Police have asked that everyone be reminded that the Easter holidays is a prime time for activity by burglars across the island.   Properties are particularly vulnerable when the main church services take place but this is also a time when many people go away for a few days, so more properties than usual are left empty.

If you are leaving your property, please ensure that all the security measures are put in place before you leave, even if you are only popping to the kiosk for a bottle of milk!   Watch out please for any strange vehicles in your area, or for motorists or pedestrians behaving oddly.   If in doubt or you have any concerns, please phone the Police.

There has also recently been a problem with street lighting in a small area of Kamares.  It is not known how long the street lighting had not been working, but the fault has now been found and light has been restored.   Could you please check that the street light outside your own property is working. If it is not, the quickest way to ensure the bulb is replaced is to phone the Electricity Board on 1800 and quote the number from the metal plate on the pole.   Please allow up to 21 working days for the bulb to be replaced - but in practice the bulb is usually replaced well within this timescale.  The Electricity Board will take a note of your phone number and then if they cannot find the fault they will ring you to check.  


Max Philisaire Kimdir?

Estetik vücutlar köşemizde bu hafta çoğunuzun ismini bile duymadığı bir vücutçuya yer vereceğim. Bu isim Max Philisaire. Spor ile küçük yaşlarda tanışan Max lise yıllarında basketbol tutkunuymuş. O yıllarda çok sıska ve zayıf olmasından dolayı artık kendisinin kilo alması gerektiğini düşünmüş ve basketbolu bir kenara bırakıp vücut geliştirme sporuna başlamış.

Öncelerde fast-food tüketen ve oldukça sağlıksız beslenen Max, bu şekilde beslenerek kilo alabileceğini ve daha kalıplı bir vücuda sahip olabileceğini düşünmüş. Daha sonra vücut geliştirme sporu ile tanışmış ve mükemmel genetiğinin farkına varmış. Vücudu bu spor için oldukça elverişli ve kasları da oldukça estetik.

Bu sporu yaşam tarzı haline getiren Max daha sonra bu spordan parasını kazanmaya başlamış. Holywood yıldızlarının antrenörlüğünü yapmış. Bu gün filmlerini izlediğimiz o kaslı adamları bu adam eğitmiş. Çalıştırdığı kişiler ve sevdikleri ona ‘The Body’ lakabını takmış.

Holywood yıldızları ile çalışması kariyeri açısından oldukça iyi. Sektöre oldukça yakın bir isim. Fiziği de oyunculuğa oldukça elverişli. İlerleyen zamanlarda kendisini bir film projesinde görebiliriz.

Max Philisaire vücut ölçüleri de oldukça merak edilen konulardan biri. 185 cm boya ve 88 kilo vücut ağırlığına sahip. Yağ oranının tek haneli rakamlarda olduğunu da hesaba katarsak oldukça büyük bir kas kütlesine sahip olduğunu söyleyebiliriz.

Apple Buckwheat Muffins

 Do you like buckwheat? It is a stronger flavored flour and is usually the overwhelming flavor in baked good. But oh, it makes fluffy muffins and pancakes!
I think it was sister Becky, that first introduced me to buckwheat via a vintage recipe for Buckwheat Griddlecakes (pancakes). Mandy and I love to make thick fluffy buckwheat pancakes, but we still haven't gotten the hang of getting them to not stick to the pan. Part of the problem is that we are also making them dairy free with water and coconut oil. Anyway, the house always ends up smelling like a greasy diner and burnt oil.
So, I thought buckwheat muffins would solve the problem nicely. A quick search online and nothing. Nothing that met my critia (dairy-free, but not gluten free and easy). I did a quick look through my vintage cookbook collection, nothing. A look through the "modern" cookbooks, nothing. I decided, fine, I will just add a bit of buckwheat to one of my favorite recipes. The first try was not good and I didn't get around to another go....

Then last week while looking for an oatmeal cookie recipe, I grabbed Mandy's Betty Crocker Country Cooking off the shelf and came across several lovely muffins recipes. Including Apple Buckwheat Muffins!
I was focused on oatmeal cookies at the moment. But after an unfortunate egg incident (Have you ever had an egg explode when you cracked it open?!?) in which I used up all the raisins, I thought muffins might sooth my nerves. Oh my! These are some of the best muffins! Soft, moist, flavorful, satisfying.....

 I am not really sure if I should be posting the recipe (It always seems like a gray area to me. Most recipes are variations, so should they really be copyrighted?), but it is too good not to share!

Apple Buckwheat Muffins (dairy-free version)
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup buckwheat flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
3/4 cup apple juice or water
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1 egg
1 large tart apple, grated

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix flour, buckwheat flour, sugar and baking powder in a large bowl. Stir in grated apple until well coated with flour mixture. Beat together egg, water or apple juice and coconut oil in a small bowl. Add to flour apple mixture, stir until just blended. Spoon into 18 muffin cups. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Tip muffins up on edge in pan to cool.
Maybe this is my recipe now that I have tweaked it a bit.(?) If you don't have/like coconut oil, I am sure another veggie oil will work fine too.

AS you can see, they didn't last long!

AMPHITHEATRE CAFE - Easter hours, new website and email address

Now the weather is getting warmer we have extended our opening hours to 10am – 8pm  every day except Easter Sunday 16th April when we will be closed. We will recommence Lamb Kleftico after Easter –  every Sunday from 23rdApril. Booking essential.

KAMARES MEDICAL CENTRE - FRIDAY 14 TO MONDAY 17 APRIL INCLUSIVE

The Kamares Emergency Medical Centre will have a nurse present from 07:00 to 19:00 over the four days of the Easter Holiday.  From 19:00 - 07:00 there is an emergency number 99 32 94 34 which will connect you to the duty nurse. This emergency service is free to members of the Medical Centre. Non members will encounter a charge.

An emergency doctor will be on duty throughout Easter at the Iasis Hospital.

A nurse is present at the Emergency Medical Centre every day of the year between 07:00 and 19:00 with the duty nurse being contacted using the emergency number 99 32 94 34.

The GP Surgery will reopen on Tuesday, 18th April and be available between 09:00 and 12:00 Monday to Friday inclusive.

Sporcular yumurtayı oldukça sık tüketirler. Hatta 1 günde 30 tane yumurta yiyen vücutcuları duymuşsunuzdur. Yumurtanın 100 gramında yaklaşık 13 gram protein vardır. Yağ : 10 gr

Mantarlı Omlet Nasıl Yapılır?

  • Mantarları güzelce temizleyin ve soyun.
  • Daha sonra mantarları küp küp veya dilim dilim kesin
  • Mantarları teflon bir tavaya çok az miktarda yağ ile birlikte ekleyin.
  • Yumurtaları temiz bir kabın içerisine kırın ve çırpın.
  • Çırpılmış yumurtaları hali hazırda pişmekte olan mantarların üzerine koyun. Bu aşamada dilerseniz pul biber veya başka baharatlar ekleyebilirsiniz.
  • Omletiniz yaklaşık 5 dakikaya hazır olur. Afiyet olsun.

What sort of author would call his own book Unmitigated Bleat?

Why, a great Sherlockian, of course!

Devotees of Sherlock Holmes will recognize the title of Paul D. Herbert’s new book of essays published by Gasogene Books as coming from “The Adventure of Red Circle.”

“Dear me!” says Holmes, turning over the pages of newspaper agony columns, “what a chorus of groans, cries, and bleatings! What a ragbag of singular happenings!” After reading a few examples out loud, he adds: “Bleat, Watson—unmitigated bleat!”

But this book is delight—sheer delight! A long-time member of the Baker Street Irregulars, Herbert is a serious scholar who knows how to have fun with the Canon. Some of these essays are laugh-out-loud funny.

Herbert is an expert on pastiches and parodies, having written a book on the theme in the 1980s called The Sincerest Form of Flattery. His lengthy essay on the topic in the present book is particularly insightful. Herbert himself is guilty of three hilarious parodies included in the volume. I particularly liked the two featuring Herblock Stones and his associate, Dr. Witsno.  

Other topics subjected to Herbert’s magnifying lens include various problems in the Canon, movie scripts that were never produced, a play that perhaps shouldn’t have been, bibliographical curiosities, people named Sherlock Holmes in real life, and some questions without answers.

Several of these essays were originally presented as talks at Sherlockian conferences over the past four decades. It is good to have them preserved in print.

Full disclosure: My friend Paul Herbert, BSI (“Mr. Leverton”) is the Official Secretary of the Tankerville Club, a Cincinnati-based scion society of the Baker Street Irregulars, which he founded.
