EUROPEAN AWARENESS CAMPAIGN BY EUROPOL - SEXUAL OFFENCES

27/10/20 - Cyprus Police

European awareness campaign by EUROPOL

It could be happening right now. It happens every two minutes. This is the average time that police authorities in the European Union receive complaints of a sexual offence, such as rape, sexual violence or assault. Although women and children are the most frequent victims of such offences, anyone can be sexually assaulted.

To draw attention to the perpetrators of such violent sexual assaults, a communication campaign is launched in 19 countries across Europe, asking for the public's help in finding some of the most dangerous sex offenders in Europe.

Law enforcement authorities from Cyprus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom participate in this online campaign.

The campaign targets nineteen fugitives, suspects or convicted of sexual offences, who are on Europe's most wanted list, which appears on the eumostwanted.eu. For the next four weeks, law enforcement authorities will release images of these individuals online and through social networks. The campaign will also be promoted across multiple media and channels to attract as many visitors as possible to the eumostwanted.eu.

There's no time to waste, help us catch these fugitives!

From the time you started reading, until you get to the end of the text, at least one violent sexual offence has been reported somewhere in the European Union. Let's not waste more time!

If you recognise one of these most wanted sex offenders, you can help the Police to make Europe safer. Any information can be sent anonymously through the website eumostwanted.eu and will be shared directly with investigators looking for that person.

In the past, such information has proved invaluable, as since the launch of the website eumostwanted.eu, in 2016, 91 criminals have been arrested who appeared on it. In at least 33 of these cases, detection and arrest came from information obtained from the general public through the website.

The Europe's Most Wanted page was launched by the European Active Fugitive Search Network (ENFAST), with the active support of Europol. ENFAST members are specialised in identifying criminals suspected or convicted of serious crimes and are the subject of European arrest warrants.
