THE BIOGRAPHY
Widely regarded as the finest conductor Great Britain has produced, Sir Thomas Beecham was born in April 1879 in St Helens, Lancashire, into the family of the pharmaceutical firm of Sir Joseph Beecham. After attending Rossall School and Wadham College, Oxford, he studied music in London and Paris, while travelling widely in Europe. He conducted his first concerts in 1899 and his first opera in 1902. He founded the first of his three orchestras, the Beecham Symphony Orchestra, in 1909 and his own opera company in 1915. He directed the Royal Opera House from 1932 to 1939, founded the London Philharmonic in 1932 and the Royal Philharmonic in 1946. He died in London in March 1961.

THE RECORDINGS
This 2CD set covers a wide range of composers associated with Beecham: Delius, Dvorák, Handel, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rossini, Tchaikovsky and Wagner. The recordings, all published here for the first time, cover the conductor’s memorable pre-war performances with the London Philharmonic and also the post-war period with the Royal Philharmonic. The RPO featured such celebrated players as Dennis Brain, who is heard here in an extract from Wagner’s Das Rheingold and in Mozart’s Divertimento for two horns and strings. Some very rare live recordings are included: Delius’s Appalachia and the Overture to Weber’s Der Freischütz, both from the Queen’s Hall in 1935. Beecham did not record Rimsky-Korsakov’s Antar Symphony commercially so this 1951 live studio recording is an important addition to the Beecham discography. The Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 was originally issued in mono only, but the stereo tapes of the first movement, recorded in London in 1958, have recently come to light and are included here for the first time.

Tasmanian Aborigines Genocide

During 1803 – 1823 British colonialist captured the Tasmanian island and killed thousands of  Tasmanian Tribes. In 1828 Lt.Governor George Arthur declared a law called “Black Catching”. They have thrown all the Tasmanian into the forest. Later British colonialist started hunting the Tasmanians and killed them.

Before 1803, 3,000 to 15,000 Aborigines were lived. After the British invasion 1860,s it became reduced. Only 72 men, 3 women, and a few children. They were treated like a slave.

In 1869, it became very worse only 3 females and 1 male was lived.

Last Survivor in Tasmanian Aborigines "Palawa"

Last full-blooded “Palawa” Tasmanian Aborigine female called “Trugernanner”. Even her’s last request was refused by the colonials and she’s died in 1872.  The Tasmanian chapter comes an end.

http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/GK/GK_EN_2_7_5.jsp

Haydi dostlar rastgele ;)

THE BIOGRAPHY - VÁCLAV TALICH

Václav Talich (1883-1961) established himself during the inter-war years as the leading figure in Prague's musical life. At the helm of the Czech Philharmonic for nigh on a quarter of a century, and as the director of the Prague National Theatre for a decade (holding these posts concurrently for five years), he galvanised his musicians to give of their best, gaining for them international acclaim. Tragically, after the liberation of his country in 1945, Talich fell victim to the ruthless politics of the period, was falsely accused of 'unpatriotic conduct' during the German occupation and thrown into jail. Released from prison on the orders of President Benes, he was fully exonerated by the official 'purification' court, but after the Communist coup in February 1948 his arch enemy Zdenek Nejedly, Minister of Education, Science and the Arts, prevented Talich from appearing before Czech audiences for five bitter years. Talich was, however, allowed to work in Bratislava where he created, in the course of three seasons, the Slovak Philharmonic. Only in 1953, after Nejedly's retirement, could Talich re-enter Czech cultural life as artistic adviser to the Czech Philharmonic. In a triumphant return, matched only in recent times by that of the exiled Rafael Kubelik, he conducted his old orchestra in Smetana's cycle Má vlast for the opening concert of the 1954 Prague Spring Festival. Talich received a hero's welcome, but, sadly, his poor state of health, undermined by years of persecution, very soon forced him into retirement. In 1957, around the time of his 74th birthday, he was belatedly honoured with the well-deserved title 'National artist'.

THE RECORDINGS

This compilation includes two live broadcasts, made with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in 1954, of Dvorák's The Water Goblin and of Mozart's Symphony No.33 (a favourite of the conductor), which are even more impressive than Talich's studio recordings and therefore of particular interest and importance. Talich was chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic between 1919-1931 and 1933-1941, when he established the orchestra's world-class status, and he returned as guest conductor in 1952 until 1954, during which period he recorded all the works heard in this compilation. The Benda Symphony and Smetana's Prague Carnival are extremely rare and appear here for the first time on CD. The extract from Tchaikovsky's Mozartiana Suite gives the collector the opportunity to hear a 1951 recording made by Talich's 'other' orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic, which he founded in 1949 when in political exile in Bratislava.

ALEUTIAN WORLD WAR II NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

The park is located on Amaknak Island in the Aleutian Island Chain, 800 miles west of Anchorage
The Aleutian World War II National Historical Park offers visitors an opportunity to hear the story of the native Aleut; their history not only during World War II, but throughout the times of involvement with non-native peoples. You’ll also be able to see the wonderful age-old crafts they still create. The Aleutian Islands also offer plenty of outdoor adventure with world-renown bird watching, sports fishing for salmon or halibut, and gorgeous plants that attract artists as well as botanists, giving you a chance at that beautiful nature photo you’ve always wanted. Check out below for great Aleutian World War II National Historical Park information.
Uniqueness
The Aleutian World War II National Historical Park and Visitor Center focus on telling the story of the “Forgotten War” — the events of the Aleutian Campaign that include the bombing of Dutch Harbor by the Japanese in June 1942, the evacuation and internment of the Aleuts, the Japanese invasion of the islands of Attu and Kiska, the Battle of Attu, the Allied invasion of Kiska, and the bombing of Paramishiru. Through the preservation and protection of World War II historic buildings and structures, the park preserves in memory the commitment and sacrifice of the more than 100,000 American and Canadian troops once stationed on these wind-swept islands off the western coast of Alaska. For the Unangan (Aleut) the park is dedicated to reconciling the injustices of the Aleutian Campaign and the suffering and loss of those forced to leave their villages and life’s treasures behind to spend years in Southeast Alaska — only to return home to find their villages in ruins or gone.
The Aleutian World War II National Historic Area encompasses the historic footprint of the U.S. Army base Fort Schwatka. Located on Amaknak Island in the Aleutian Island Chain of Alaska, the fort was one of four coastal defense posts built to protect Dutch Harbor (the back door to the United States) during World War II. In 1996 Congress designated this National Historic Area to interpret, educate, and inspire present and future generations about the history of the Aleut or Unangan people and the Aleutian Islands in the defense of the United States in World War II.
The park and its facilities on Amaknak Island in Unalaska, Alaska, are owned and managed by the Ounalashka Corporation, the village corporation for Unalaska. The National Park Service provides technical assistance to the corporation and their staffs to plan, develop, and preserve the resources on site. Through this cooperative partnership, the Unangan are the keepers of their history and invite the public to learn more about its past and present.
June through August, wildflowers cover the lush spongy subarctic tundra. Wild iris, orchids, violets, and alpine azalea are but a few of the island’s species that attract botanists and artists. These provide plenty of material for that outdoor picture or nature photo. In the fall, bushes are heavy with salmon berries and blueberries and the streams are full of salmon.
Bird watching in the Aleutians is world renown. Unalaska is one of the only places in the world to see the whiskered auklet. Puffins, cormorants, ancient murrelets and birds in breeding plumage, especially the snow bunting, can be seen in Unalaska. Sport fishing is very popular and charter boats regularly land record halibut. The Aleutian Islands are among the world’s richest fishing grounds.
