THE COURSE OF THE VIRUS IN CYPRUS UP TO 31 OCTOBER [with graphics]

One thousand eight hundred positive cases of coronavirus have been detected in the last 14 days (until 31 October) in Cyprus with Limassol and Paphos having the highest rates compared to the other provinces according to the national report on the coronavirus.

Specifically, of the cases diagnosed, 1046 (58.1%) had a place of residence in limassol province, 273 (15.2%) in Paphos province, 187 (10.4%) in nicosia province, 109 (6.1%) in Larnaca province, 71 (3.9%) in the free area of Famagusta and 114 incidents (6.3%) british bases or residence in the other country or there was no information available for them.

It is worth noting that up to 31 October, 4,422 cases of COVID-19 and 33 deaths were reported to the Republic of Cyprus (mortality in the diagnosed cases of COVID-19: 0.8%).

According to epidemiological history, 6.7% are cases with a recent travel history, 85.3% are for domestic transmission cases and 8% are cases with an unknown epidemiological history.

What epidemiological indicators say

The analyses are based on laboratory confirmed cases notified to the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit of the Ministry of Health. As of 31 October, 4,422 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-October 31st have been reported, the cumulative incidence of 14 days of COVID-19 (reported incidents of 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants), a measure reflecting the rate of active cases of COVID-19 in the population (prevalence of active disease) 1 , is 207.9 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Demographic characteristics of positive COVID19 events identified

Among the 1,800 cases of COVID-19 diagnosed as of October 18, 51.5% were in men (n=927) and 48.3% in women (n=869). For 4 cases the sex was not currently available. By age groups: 289 infants, children and adolescents aged 0-17 (16.1%), 1,307 adults aged 18-59 (72.6%), 186 people aged 60 and over (10.3%), while for 18 people the information was not currently available.

A graph shows the breakdown of cases by age group and gender. The median age of all COVID-19 cases in the last 14 days is 33 years (Intra-fourth-quarteral range 23-48 years). The median age of adults (≥ 18 years) with COVID-19 is 38 years (Endo-fourth-molecular range 27-51 years). The cumulative effects of 14 days (per 100,000 inhabitants), based on the age group.

The epidemiological history of 1800 cases

In the last 14 days (18-31 October), of the 1,800 recorded confirmed cases of COVID-19, 6.7% (n=120) concerned cases with a recent travel history, 85.3% (n=1,536) related to domestic transmissions, while 8% (n=144) had an unknown epidemiological history. Table A1 and Figure A3 in the Annex show the breakdown by sex and age group of cases according to the epidemiological history as well as the daily distribution, for this period.

Clinical Features

Of the 1,800 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the last 14 days, clinical information is available for 95.3% (n=1,716), of which 27% (n=463) did not report any symptoms at diagnosis and 73% (n=1,253) reported at least one symptom.

 Underlying diseases

Data on underlying diseases in people with COVID-19 in the last 14 days were available for 1,693 (94.1%) Cases. Of these individuals, 421 (24.9%) reported at least one underlying disease.

Introductions to Hospitals and Intensive Care Units (ICU)

As of 31 October, a total of 7.4% (n=328) of COVID-19 cases received hospital treatment. The median age of people hospitalized is 59 years (Endo-fourth-molecular range: 47-72 years). Hospital care was mainly for men (n=199, 61.3%).

In total, 39 patients (11.9% of all nurses) were admitted to Intensive Care Units (ICU3). The median age of people admitted to ICU is 66 years (Endo-fourth-molecular range: 58-74 years). Patients in ICU are predominantly male (n=29, 74.4%). five patients were in ICU. The average age of these patients is 67.4 years. intubated and five are still intubated (until 31 October).

 Deaths

As of 31 October, 33 deaths were reported in Cyprus in cases with COVID-19 (Mortality: 0.8%). occurred in men and 10 (30.3%) to women. The median age of people with COVID-19 who died is 76 years (Endo-fourth-molecular range: 68-79 years).

Twelve deaths were reported in the province of Larnaca and eight in the province of Paphos, five in the provinces of Nicosia and Limassol and three in the province of free Famagusta.

The median time from the date of sampling to the date of death was 11 days (Intra-fourth molecular range: 5-29 days).

It is noted that in 26 of the people who died an underlying cause of death was recorded COVID-19 (COVID-19 mortality: 0.6%).
