READY TO REOPEN 8998 IF NEEDED

Filenews 9 November 2020 - by Myrto Zoubidou

It is now open to either local lockdown in cities where epidemiological data requires it, or a one-week global lockdown, following the rapid increase in virus-positive incidents. The Government is ready to reopen in 8998 if necessary, deputy minister of innovation and research Kyriakos Kokkinos tells Filenews.

At 7 p.m., President Anastasiades meets with the scientific team in order to evaluate the data so far. The government, on the one hand, is called upon to proceed with restrictions which will stem the large dispersion of the coronavirus into society and the only way to do so is to reduce contacts between citizens. On the other hand, the equation cannot leave out the course of the country's economy.

Ready to operate in 8998

In view of the fact that all scenarios are under discussion at the highest level, the possibility of the exceptional movement service 8998 re-into our lives remains a visible scenario in the form we knew it during the period March – May.

Speaking to the press, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Research Kyriakos Kokkinos, asked to comment on the readiness of the 8998 system, said that if decided by the government either local or pancyprian lockdown, the agency is ready to reopen to receive SMS on exceptional travel.

Regarding the potential of networks for tele-education and teleworking, Mr Kokkinos said that we are on the right track both in terms of capabilities and in terms of data security.

The data in the previous wave

It is worth noting that in the previous wave of the pandemic where restrictive measures were imposed, in 8998 it received an average of 250,000 requests per day for the exceptional movement of citizens.

The system was operational from 25 March until 06:00 on the morning of 21 May when the service was disabled.
