Following the decision by the Council of Ministers to apply stricter rules to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the health ministry on Thursday issued an announcement clarifying the measures in place in the Limassol and Paphos districts.
Until November 16, all group sports and social activities are banned in the two districts.
According to the announcement, the ban concerns the following activities: Team sports such as football, basketball, handball, volleyball and futsal, swimming in swimming pools, martial arts, dance, theatre, music group lessons and choir practice.
“It is specified that the aim of the measure is to avoid the concentration of several people in areas with increased risk of transmission of the virus, following the outbreak of cases recorded after such activities in recent weeks in the two districts.”
In cases where training or practice can be done individually, that is if only the child and a trainer are present, the activity can be carried out if all other guidelines are followed.
“For example, if a child is a swimming athlete, he or she can train at a sports facility alone with his or her coach, provided that no other people are present at the same time and that the relevant protocols are followed.”
A child having guitar lessons can also continue with these alone with a teacher, as long as the teacher and children over the age of 12 years wear protective masks and follow hygiene protocols.
