314 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, SATURDAY

Another death from coronavirus and 314 positive cases were announced today by the Ministry of Health:

The death of a male patient with COVID-19, aged 82, with underlying diseases that was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital is announced. The final cause of death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. The total number of deaths with covid-19 disease is 27, 18 men and 9 women, with an average age of 74 years. To date, 35 deaths of people positive for SARS-CoV-2 have been announced in Cyprus, of which 77% (27 people) are due to COVID-19 and 23% (8 people) to other causes of death.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 4,072 additional laboratory diagnoses identified 222 additional new cases of COVID-19 disease, plus the 92 cases identified in the Slaughterhouse.

In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:

  • Of 524 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 60 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,736 samples taken through a private initiative, 94 cases were detected.
  • Of 284 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 14 cases were detected.
  • Of 1,008 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 44 cases were identified.
  • Of 261 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 8 cases were identified.
  • Of 202 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 8 samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 1 case was identified.

In addition, the laboratory test of 47 samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP was completed in Associations participating in its competitions, without the detection of a case.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 5,871.

In addition, 53 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, five of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, one patient was transferred intubated to the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital where a total of seven patients are being treated, while another nine people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.
