233 new cases of COVID-19 disease were announced today, according to an update received by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories. The new positive individuals in the virus were identified from a total of 3,756 laboratory diagnoses.
With regard to new cases, it is noted that 1 in 7 tested, through the tracing process, is positive for the virus.
According to information, from an initial analysis of current cases of coronavirus, two thirds of the current positive individuals in the virus were detected in Limassol and are contacts, either detected through the tracing process or privately.
In detail, today's incidents emerged as follows:
Of 834 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 113 cases were identified.
Of 1,380 samples taken through a private initiative, 77 cases were detected.
Of 163 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 16 cases were detected.
Of 958 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 11 cases were identified.
Of 126 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 9 cases were identified.
Of 150 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 4 cases were identified.
Of 142 samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions, 1 case was detected.
Of 3 samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 2 cases were identified.
Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 5,333.
In addition, 50 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, five of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, five patients are still being treated in the Nicosia General Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, while another 10 people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.
In addition to the new negative number of positive people with the virus, announced today, there is a strong concern, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, the rapid increase in patients, who currently reach 65, of which 50 in the reference hospital (5in the Increased Care Unit), another 10 in a ward in Nicosia and 5 patients are intubated in the Intensive Care Unit.
Compared to last Thursday, when the number of patients in need of hospitalization was 42, today we have 23 more people.
As the Ministry of Health points out, it has repeatedly been pointed out that despite the preparedness of hospitals and health professionals and in Cyprus the possibilities of the Health System are not limitless, so very much attention needs to be paid to compliance with the measures. The protection of the elderly and vulnerable groups rests with the collective and responsibility of all of us.
