TWENTY ONE NEW CASES TODAY, THURSDAY

The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,133 laboratory diagnoses identified 21 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 188 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 6 cases were identified.
  • Of 161 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 4 cases were identified.
  • Of 700 samples taken through a private initiative, 7 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,431 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 4 cases were identified.

Specific:

  • 6 by tracing:
  1. Three people are contacts of the coach of The Glory Katokopia announced on 6/10. One person is also a coach at Glory. The other two people are from his family environment.
  2. Two people are contacts of the person who works at a Foundation in Nicosia Province and it was announced on 3/10. One of them is a student at the University of Cyprus. The cluster with today's incidents has 10 people.
  3. One person is in contact with the case announced on 5/10 by flights. He had come from Athens on 3/10.
  • 4 from Limassol Microbiology:
  1. Two radiographers at Limassol General Hospital.
  2. A nursing student of the TEPAK who practices at the Limassol General Hospital.
  3. One person is in the Microbiological Laboratory of Limassol General Hospital.
  • 4 of flights:
  1. Two people came from Munich to Larnaca on 7/10.
  2. One person came from Athens to Larnaca on 7/10.
  3. One person came from London to Larnaca on 7/10.
  • 7 by private initiative:
  1. One person had symptoms (weakness) on 6/10.
  2. One person had symptoms (fever, sore throat, fatigue) since 4/10.
  3. One person came from London on 1 October and then developed symptoms.
  4. One person had symptoms (cough, fever, myalgia, iosmia) since 3/10.
  5. One person had symptoms (dyspnea) on 5/10. She's a student at the University of Cyprus.
  6. Two people are tourists from Latvia who came to Cyprus on 3/10. One in 3/10 developed symptoms (cough, depression).

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 175 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 132 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions, 90 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 32 laboratory diagnoses were carried out, and
  • From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 224 laboratory tests were completed.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,918.

In addition, six people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, two patients remain intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
