TWENTY NEW CASES TODAY, SUNDAY - Updated with full information

The Ministry of Health announces that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,365 laboratory diagnoses identified 20 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 303 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 4 cases were identified.
  • Of 300 samples taken through a private initiative, 11 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,772 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 35 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 244 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 2 cases were identified.
  • Of 280 samples taken as part of the laboratory testing programme carried out in villages of Larnaca and Famagusta Provinces, 1 case was identified.

Specific:

  • 11 new cases were identified through a private initiative:
  1. One person came from Romania on 27/9 and took the test on the 12th day to be released from quarantine in accordance with the relevant Decree.
  2. Three people are colleagues and did the test because one of them had symptoms from 7/10 (fever, cough, shortness of breath, headache).
  3. One person had symptoms on 4/10 (brains, sore throat, loss of taste).
  4. One person had symptoms on 5/10 (fever, headache, nasal congestion). She's a student at the University of Cyprus.
  5. Two people did the test to travel back to Russia. They had come to Cyprus on 28/9.
  6. One person is a flight attendant and did the examination as part of a regular check done due to occupation.
  7. One person had symptoms on 7/10 (fever, loss of taste, sore throat, cough).
  8. One person came from Ukraine on 4/10 and did the test to be released from quarantine.
  • 1 case detected by flight: This is a person who came from Manchester to Paphos on 10/10.
  • 4 new cases were detected by tracing:
  1. One person is contacted by a person's family environment from the cluster announced yesterday.
  2. Two people are contacts from another person's family environment from the cluster announced yesterday. In the cluster we have 8 people.
  3. One person is a case contact announced on 6/10.
  • 1 case identified by the school unit control program: It concerns a teacher at a special education school in Paphos. It is also related to the cluster mentioned above that has 7 people, as a contact of two of the individuals included in it.
  • 2 cases by reference from PI:
  1. One person had symptoms on 9/10 (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose).
  2. One person had symptoms on 9/10 (fever)
  • 1 case from the larnaca and Famagusta village control program: It concerns a person residing in Paralimni.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 54 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 165 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 42 laboratory tests were completed, and
  • From samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on associations participating in its competitions, 170 laboratory diagnoses were carried out.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 2,006.

In addition, three people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital. In addition, two patients remain intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
