The death of a female patient, aged 90, with underlying diseases who was hospitalized in the Increased Care Unit of Famagusta General Hospital as well as 29 new cases of COVID-19 disease announced today by the Ministry of Health.
The final cause of death of the 90-year-old is COVID-19. Therefore, the total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients is 30, and deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 are 23, 16 men and 7 women, with an average age of 72 years.
In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,532 laboratory diagnoses identified 29 new cases of COVID-19 disease.
In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:
- Of 179 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 8 cases were identified.
- Of 1,414 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 5 cases were identified.
- Of 208 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
- Of 873 samples taken through a private initiative, 9 cases were identified.
- Of 293 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.
- Of 76 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 4 cases were identified.
- Of 281 samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions, 1 case was identified.
Specific:
- 5 cases came from the flight control programme:
- Two people came on different flights from Athens to Larnaca on 5/10.
- One person came from Heraklion to Larnaca on 5/10.
- Two people came from Bucharest to Larnaca on 5/10.
- 9 cases of laboratory testing of a private initiative:
- One person did the examination due to symptoms (runny nose and headache) that he had since 29/9.
- One person had symptoms (brains) on 5/10.
- One person had symptoms (fever and headache) since 3/10.
- One person did the test ahead of a planned trip. 4/10 reports a headache.
- A person associated with the case announced yesterday by a private initiative with symptoms (runny nose) since 1/10, but did the examination privately.
- One person and did the examination under the control of all employees of the company that employs him.
- Two people have a travel history in Sweden and came to Cyprus on 28/9.
- One person has a travel history in Belgium and reiterated the review as part of the recommendations for a 7-day re-examination.
- 1 case microbiological laboratories of General Hospitals: Concerning person had symptoms (fever and cough) on 4/10.
- 8 cases of contact tracing of already confirmed cases
- Three people are close contacts from the family environment of the case that was announced on 3/10 that had been examined as part of a preoperative check-up.
- One person is a contact of students from a private school in Limassol Province.
- A person is a case contact announced on 3/10 by a referral from a Personal Physician with symptoms from 29/9.
- One person is contacted in the case announced on 4/10 by a referral from a Personal Physician with symptoms and travel history in Paris.
- One person is contact of the case announced on 4/10 by a private initiative with symptoms.
- One person is in contact with the case announced on 3/10 by a preoperative check-up. Therefore, the chain has 5 people (1 x 3/10, 2 x 5/10, 2 x 6/10), 4 of whom work in the same area.
- 4 cases were detected by the programme for the control of nursing homes and other closed structures: these are employees of the Foundation in nicosia province. They are also contacts of their colleague that was announced on 3/10. I would remind you that two other people from his family were announced yesterday. Cluster lists 7 people.
- 1 case was detected through the COP sampling program: This is a member of the coaching team in academies of Katokopia Glory.
- 1 case from the Special Teams / Referral by a Personal Physician: This is a person who was referred by the Doctor's Staff due to symptoms he developed on 4/10 (loss of taste).
In addition, the laboratory examination was carried out for 208 samples taken under the control programme of pupils, teachers and school staff, without the detection of a case.
Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,876.
In addition, six people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit. One patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital, where three patients are being treated intubated.
