ONE DEATH, 33 NEW CASES FRIDAY - Updated

The death of a female patient, aged 89, with a serious medical history, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, is announced. The final cause of death is COVID-19. Therefore, the total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients is 32, and deaths with the ultimate cause of COVID-19 disease amount to 25, 17 men and 8 women, with an average age of 72 years.

The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,891 laboratory diagnoses identified 33 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 277 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 14 cases were identified.
  • Of 169 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 783 samples taken through a private initiative, 12 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,090 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 4 cases were identified.
  • Of 44 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 2 cases were identified

In particular, they emerged as follows:

  • 14 by tracing:
  1. A person is contacted from the workplace of the case announced on 5/10 by referral from PI due to symptoms. On 7/10, three other people from the family environment of the first case were announced. The cluster has 5 people.
  2. Two people are contacts of the case announced on 6/10 that did the examination due to symptoms from 4/10. One is from his family environment and did the examination privately and the second is from his professional environment.
  3. A person is contacted from the family environment of the case announced on 8/10 by a private initiative due to symptoms on 3/10.
  4. One person is contacted from the family environment of a case announced on 7/10 through tracing.
  5. One person is in contact from the family environment of one of the two cases that were detected by the airport check and had returned from Bucharest on 5/10. Announced on 6/10. Today's case had also travelled on the same flight.
  6. Two people are contacts from the family environment of the case announced on 6/10 by private initiative due to symptoms.
  7. One person is contacted in the case announced on 5/10 by the airport check. They had returned together from Liverpool.
  8. Two people are contacts from the family environment of the case announced on 6/10 with symptoms.
  9. One person is contacted from the family environment of a case announced on 4/10 with a travel history in Italy on 4/10. Today's case has a travel history in Portugal.
  10. One person is contact of the case announced on 6/10 by a private initiative due to symptoms from 3/10.
  11. One person is a case contact announced on 7/10 through a private initiative. Today's case reports symptoms (brains, runny nose) on 6/10.
  • 12 by private initiative:
  1. Two people are tourists who came from England on 4/10. On 8/10 they developed symptoms, one fever and cough and the other brains. They were transferred to Eden.
  2. One person did the test due to symptoms (fever and headaches) he had on 8/10.
  3. One person did the test due to symptoms (fever, cough, headaches) that he had on 7/10.
  4. One person did the test because it was case contact on 6/10. They work together, but it was not reported by the case.
  5. One person had symptoms (headache, sore throat, depression, shivering) since 5/10.
  6. One person had symptoms (headache, congestion, runny nose, iosmia) since 3/10.
  7. One person had symptoms (sore throat, headaches) on 7/10.
  8. One person had symptoms (runny nose) on 7/10. He has a travel history in London on 30/9.
  9. One person had symptoms (brains) from 7/10. On 1/10 he returned from a trip to Greece.
  10. One person had symptoms (cough) from 6/10.
  11. One person returned from Doha (25/9) and carried out the examination to be released from quarantine in accordance with the relevant protocol. By 9/23 he was in the United States.
  • 2 by referral from a Personal Physician:
  1. One person had a fever on 6/10.
  2. The second person had coughing, fever, iosmia, runny nose, brains on 7/10.
  • 4 of flights:
  1. One person came from Berlin to Paphos on 8/10
  2. One person came from Thessaloniki to Paphos on 8/10.
  3. One person came from Lithuania to Larnaca on 8/10.
  4. One person came from England to Paphos on 8/10
  • 1 from Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals: Concerns a person who had symptoms (cough, fever, sore throat).

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken under the laboratory control programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 208 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • Samples taken as part of a sample check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions carried out 204 laboratory diagnoses, and
  • From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 116 laboratory tests were completed.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,951.

In addition, three people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital. In addition, two patients remain intubated in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
