MINISTRY OF TOURISM PLANS TO UPGRADE FAMAGUSTA BEACHES

Cyprus Mail 5 October 2020 - by Nicholas Shkurko

Beaches in Paralimni, Ayia Napa and Sotira will be upgraded as part of plans to boost tourism, the deputy ministry of tourism said on Monday.

The plan covers short and long-term goals set for 2030.

Last Friday, Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios held a meeting with the mayors of the three affected municipalities: Paralimni’s Theodoros Pyrillis, Aya Napa’s Christos Zannetou and Sotira’s George Takkas.

The plan regarding the upgrade of beaches involves providing financial support to municipalities.

“The plan will also see that municipalities and communities are financially covered for the purchase of improved umbrellas and sunbeds, which will be made with high-quality materials and will be harmoniously in line with the surrounding area,” the statement said.

Moreover, beaches will have to be equipped with recycling bins, improved public toilets and adequate infrastructure for disabled people.

The idea of the deputy ministry of tourism is to fully implement the plan between October 2020 and November 2022, based on the approved budget of the Ministry of Tourism.
