Stricter measures imposed on coastal Limassol to contain the coronavirus spread have prompted some of its citizens to organise their parties in Nicosia to avoid the 22:30 closure of restaurants and entertainment venues.
This is what Professor Petros Karayiannis, member of the Scientific Advisory Team and Professor of microbiology and molecular virology of the University of Nicosia’s Medical School, said on Wednesday.
“They think they can fool authorities and overstep decrees, they must have not realised the seriousness of the situation,” the Professor told Philenews.
Even though he has no official data, Karayiannis said reports on this have come to him from various reliable sources.
Stricter social distancing measures in Limassol that came into force on Sunday following a surge in the number of coronavirus cases will remain in force until Monday, October 26.
The government has strongly advised Limassolians to also restrict their movement after 11.30pm.
A shocking record of 202 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Saturday, the highest number since the pandemic’s outbreak, and most of them in Limassol district.
