DEATH OF A 62 YEAR OLD, AND 21 NEW CASES TODAY, WEDNESDAY

The death of a male patient, aged 62, without underlying diseases is announced and he was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital. The final cause of death is COVID-19. Therefore, the total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients is 31, and deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 are 24, 17 men and 7 women, with an average age of 72 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,095 laboratory diagnoses identified 21 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 173 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 9 cases were identified.
  • Of 271 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 864 samples taken through a private initiative, 9 cases were identified.
  • Of 245 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 85 samples taken as part of a random check carried out by the COP on Associations participating in its competitions, 1 case was detected.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 138 laboratory tests were completed, and
  • Of samples taken as part of the screening of passengers and repatriated persons, 319 laboratory diagnoses were carried out.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 1,897.

In addition, four people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital. Three discharges were given. In addition, two patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
