Due to the very high number of positive COVID-19 cases detected in recent days, as well as their over-number of close contacts, the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit's Tracing Team focuses on informing virus-positive individuals, asking them to submit their close contacts electronically to the Unit in order to begin their tracing.
People who are informed by the Tracing Team that they are positive for the virus should in turn contact their close contacts by informing them that their data has been declared for tracing and indicating that they must remain in self-contained condition until the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit contacts them to arrange an appointment for sampling.
In the event that any person who has been informed that he or she is in contact with a case has or has experienced symptoms before the Tracing Team contacts him or her, he/she must inform his/her personal physician of the symptoms, necessarily declaring that he/she is a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19incident.
As the data collected by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit shows, many of the chains have as their starting point contamination social gatherings, such as weddings, baptisms and private parties. It therefore appeals to citizens to be particularly careful when attending such events and to ensure their individual protection, following the relevant instructions. It is recalled that the organization of weddings and baptisms is governed by protocols and any other private event, for example engagement parties, anniversary parties, etc., are not allowed.
Prudent and responsible behaviour and faithful adherence to health protocols by all is the key to the successful management of the health crisis we are experiencing.
