Ninety-one new cases of coronavirus out of a total of 2,285 laboratory diagnoses announced today by the Ministry of Health, following information from the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit.

In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:

  • Of 345 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 35 cases were identified.
  • Of 469 samples taken through a private initiative, 25 cases were identified.
  • Of 190 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 9 cases were detected.
  • Of 44 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 10 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,237 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 12 cases were identified.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 3,636.

In addition, the Ministry of Health notes that out of the total of 2,285 laboratory diagnoses carried out, 1,237 concerned the passenger control programme at airports, with 12 positive incidents.

The remaining 1,048 laboratory tests revealed 79 new cases of coronavirus involving domestic infections.

It also points out that 1 in 13 people tested positive for the virus and shows that there is dispersion in the community, underlining that a total of 345 laboratory tests were carried out from the process of tracing confirmed cases and 35 cases occurred, i.e. one in 10 people who underwent a laboratory test tested positive for the virus.

Hospitalizations

In addition, 25 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, four of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, two patients are still being treated in the Nicosia General Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit, while another four people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.
