The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,558 laboratory diagnoses identified 43 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, today's positive individuals in the virus emerged as follows:

  • Of 292 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 18 cases were identified.
  • Of 271 samples taken through a private initiative, 14 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,577 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 4 cases were identified.
  • Of 206 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 5 cases were identified.
  • Of 212 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 2 cases were identified.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases is 2,687.

It should be noted, according to an announcement by the Ministry that most laboratories did not take samples yesterday Sunday. Also, there have not yet been results from the various programmes (COP, nursing homes, etc.), because the laboratory diagnosis of the samples has not been completed.

In particular, out of a total of 2,558 samples, 1,577 concerned passengers arriving on various flights at Cyprus airports. Four positive people came up with the virus.

As a result, the remaining 39 positive people in the virus are the result of 981 laboratory tests carried out in the context of tracing, through a private initiative, the special teams and the laboratories of public hospitals and concern people from the community. That is, 1 in 25 people in the community who were tested positive for the virus.

Also, the number of admissions to hospitals remains high, with 19 patients in the reference hospital, including one in the Increased Care Unit, two in a COVID ward in Nicosia and 2 in a more serious condition remaining intubated in the Intensive Care Unit in Nicosia.
