The amendment of the decree restricting the movement of a particular type of motorcycle was decided by the Chief of Police, Stelios Papatheodorou, following reactions recorded in recent days. The restriction excludes rented motorcycles, while the days and hours of the prohibition on the movement of motorcycles mentioned in the decree of 13 August 2020 are reduced.
The Chief and other members of the police leadership had a meeting today at Police Headquarters, with representatives of organized motorcyclists and owners of motorcycle rental businesses. At the meeting, opinions were exchanged and suggestions were made in relation to the recent decree restricting the movement of a particular type of motorcycle, dated 13 August 2020.
After taking seriously the positions and views of the participants and having weighed the need to ensure public order and tranquillity and assessing the results of the implementation of the decree to date, the Chief of Police decided to amend the above decree, excluding from the restriction rental motorcycles and reducing the days and hours of prohibition of the movement of motorcycles referred to in decree dated 13.8.2020.
The amending decree will apply to the dates 22 & 23.8.2020 and 29 & 30.8.2020, on the roads referred to in the Decree, between the hours 0001 – 0400 (Friday and Saturday evening). At the same time, an operational action plan will be drawn up, including an increased presence of members of the Police on the streets referred to in the decree, during these days.
A police statement states that the existing cooperation between the Police and organised motorcyclists will continue as we believe that this cooperation achieves the best possible results.
