20 FLIGHTS FROM CYPRUS TO THESSALONIKI ARE AFFECTED

 Filenews 3 November 2020

A total of twenty flights to and from Thessaloniki, to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports, are expected to be affected by the temporary closure for two weeks of the airport "Macedonia" as part of the restrictive measures announced by Greece to limit the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cype information from Hermes Airports indicates that following the announcement of the exceptional restrictive measures for the temporary suspension of flights to and from Thessaloniki, for two weeks, starting today 3 to 17 November, flights to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports will be affected.

In particular, from today all flights to and from Thessaloniki, to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports are cancelled.

From Larnaca Airport there were 7 flights per week to Thessaloniki, four of which were operated by Aegean and three by WizzAir.

From Paphos airport there were three flights per week from Paphos airport with Ryanair.

According to Hermes Airports' calculations, in the two weeks that Macedonia airport will remain closed, they would travel to and from Thessaloniki, to and from Larnaca and Paphos airports, some five thousand passengers.

However, the managing company of the airports of Cyprus recalls yesterday's announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus that "regardless of the measures that come into force between now and 17 November, Cypriot citizens who had planned or wished to be repatriated to the island, can move internally to other airports within Greece, including "Eleftherios Venizelos" in Athens , to leave there for Cyprus".

Meanwhile, a press release from Aegean states that "following the announcement of the new exceptional restrictive measures for the Thessaloniki region by the Greek State, the company informs that it is obliged to proceed with a temporary suspension of domestic and international routes to and from the airport "Macedonia" of Thessaloniki from 3/11/2020 to 17/11/2020".

It is added that 'according to a relevant directive (NOTAM) of the Civil Protection Office, from Tuesday 3 November at 18:00 to Tuesday 17 November at 23:59, all passenger flights of the domestic and international network to and from Thessaloniki are suspended. All passengers who have a ticket for this period will be informed of their choices either directly by the company with a personalized message or by their travel agent."
