197 NEW CASES MONDAY, AND A SECOND DEATH FROM THE CAREHOME

The death of a male covid-19 patient, aged 91, was announced today Monday by the Ministry of Health.

The total number of cases today is 197, of which 35 were announced earlier and the remaining 162 were announced in the afternoon.

The 91-year-old had an extremely heavy medical history and had been transferred in the previous days from Sokratio Melathros Nursing and was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital. The final cause of death is attributed to septic shock.

The total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients is 34, and deaths with covid-19 disease remain 26, 17 men and 9 women, with an average age of 73 years.

It is noted that of the 852 samples carried out as part of the tracing, most relate to close contacts of cases from previous days in Limassol Province. In particular, of the 103 cases identified by the tracing process, 77 involve close contacts of positive incidents in Limassol Province.

It should also be noted that 2 of the 130 additional incidents announced this evening also concern people from Sokratio Melathron Of Nursing, who were transferred last night to the Limassol PAYP due to problems they were facing. In total the positive incidents from the nursing home are 37.

In more detail, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of an additional 2,706 laboratory diagnoses were detected in addition to the 35 cases from the nursing home announced earlier, 162 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:

  • Of 852 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 103 cases were detected.
  • Of 315 samples taken through a private initiative, 15 cases were identified.
  • Of 155 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 12 cases were detected.
  • Of 1,078 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 8 cases were identified.
  • Of 306 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 24 cases were identified.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 4,760.

In addition, 27 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, four of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, five patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at nicosia General Hospital, while another eight people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.

No new cases in the occupied territories

No new case of coronavirus has been detected in the last 24 hours in the occupied territories.

In a written statement, "Health Minister" Ali Pyli said 1759 tests had been carried out and that no new case had been diagnosed.

The total number of confirmed cases remains at 939 and deaths at five.
