Hundreds of people gathered at 7pm to protest recent coronavirus measures and corruption.
The protest, which had been organised via social media, began in the Enaerios area and made its way to the sea front.
At one point, around 100 hooded people split from the group of protesters and started throwing stones and flares at police in the area and setting fire to rubbish bins.
As a result, four police officers and a firefighter were injured, while a police vehicle was engulfed in flames after a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it. Damage was caused to three other police cars and four privately-owned vehicles.
The injured officers were taken by ambulance to Limassol general hospital where they were treated and discharged.
In the meantime, police officers carried out searches in the area to locate the perpetrators.
By midnight, they had arrested seven suspects, two 21-year-olds, two 20-year-olds, one 19-year-old and one 17-year-old.
A 15-year-old was also arrested in connection with the incidents, as well as for being in possession of illegal drugs. He was spotted by a police patrol near the area where the incidents had taken place a little earlier.
The teenager tried to run away when he saw the officers but was caught. In his possession 21 grammes of cannabis, a precision scale and two crushers were found.
The suspects were taken to a Limassol police station for questioning. A number of other persons are still wanted in connection with the offences.
The protest ended peacefully with songs and speeches.
