PRESSING THE BRITISH ESTATE AGENT FOR INFORMATION REGARDING THE PASSPORTS

 Filenews 27 October 2020 - by Michalis H'Vassilis

A new meeting with investigators in the Al Jazeera gold passport revelations was held yesterday afternoon by the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General, giving instructions on the next steps. During the meeting, a review was carried out of the progress of the investigations so far, as well as of the statements received as well as of the documents collected concerning this serious case.

Information from "F" indicates that at the heart of the meeting was British real estate agent Tony Kay, who was working with the protagonists of the Al Jazeera video. According to the same information, the British man has so far not given written testimony to the Police, as previously known, but has provided investigators with a written signed note on the advice of his lawyer concerning the case.

Because this person is considered one of the keys that can unlock the case, efforts are made as he gives testimony about what he knows, but also the conversations he had with those involved.

At the same time, difficulties seem to arise with regard to the arrival of the two journalists of the training channel in Cyprus in order to give testimony about what was left between them and those shown in the video, in order to proceed with the investigations. However, there seems to be a difficulty in their arrival even though contacts are continuing.

In the hands of the investigative team of the T.E.O. Police Headquarters are several documents related to the case under investigation, which led to the resignation of Dimitris Syllouris from the presidency of the Parliament, Christakis Giovanis from an ACPL MP, and the lawyer Andreas Pittatzis is involved. Among the documents received are files from the Ministry of the Interior concerning naturalized cases involving the Giovanni group through which investments were made. These cases are not many and will be examined to show how foreign investors were given – if they were given – naturalised. It is important to show the time the application was submitted, the time of its examination and the granting of citizenship, or whether it was granted exceptionally, etc. Documents were received by both the Registrar of Companies and MOKAS, to which lawyer Pitatzis had appealed to investigate a Chinese investor with no information other than a name. This letter was considered irrelevant and no follow-up was taken.

However, the next few days are considered decisive and the next moves will depend on developments.
