Akel MP Christakis Giovanis resigned his post on Tuesday after he appeared ready in an undercover video to help a Chinese businessman with a criminal record — who it later emerged was fictitious – secure a Cypriot passport.
In a resignation letter, Giovani said he was resigning his seat in parliament and the party’s central committee to allow the party to clear the case.
Giovanis said the video, recorded by undercover Al Jazeera reporters and included House president Demetris Syllouris, was staged and aimed to hurt Cyprus and the investment programme.
