181 NEW CASES - TUESDAY

181 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified out of a total of 3,589 laboratory diagnoses, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories.

It is noted that one patient was transferred from the reference hospital intubated in Nicosia. As a result, three patients are now hospitalized in the ICU, while another 4 are in the Increased Care Unit in Famagusta.

In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:

  • Of 392 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 48 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,813 samples taken through a private initiative, 113 cases were detected.
  • Of 187 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 8 cases were detected.
  • Of 193 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 7 cases were identified.
  • Of 891 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 5 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken as part of a random check carried out by the COP in Associations participating in its competitions, 5 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 108 laboratory tests were completed.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 3,817.

In addition, 24 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, four of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, three patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the Nicosia General Hospital, while another four people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward.
