The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 2,769 laboratory diagnoses identified 14 new cases of COVID-19 disease.
In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:
- Of 1,415 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 2 cases were identified.
- Of 111 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
- Of 164 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 5 cases were identified.
- Of 859 samples taken through a private initiative, 5 cases were identified.
- Of 218 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 1 case was identified.
It is noted that the current cases have resulted as follows:
- 5 x tracing, 3 of which through a private initiative:
- One person had returned to Cyprus by flight from Athens on 20/8. He has no symptoms, but he stayed in the same house as his viral-positive partner.
- Two people are contacts from the family environment of the same case and did the test privately. They don't have any symptoms.
- The other two are contacts from the family case environment. They're a couple.
- 5 x private initiative:
- The 1st person is a Greek with a travel history in Greece.
- Two people are a Russian couple living permanently in Cyprus with a travel history in Russia. The woman reports symptoms on 12/8 and the man reports symptoms on 13/8.
- The fourth person took the test privately due to symptoms he had on 23/8.
- The 5th person has a travel history in Mykonos. He has no symptoms.
- 2 x flights: These are two Greeks (male and female), permanent residents of Cyprus, who are not related to each other and came from Thessaloniki on the same flight on 24/8.
- 1 x Microbiological laboratories: This is a person who returned from Athens on 21/8 and had symptoms on 23/8.
- 1 x Public Health Clinics: Referred by the Physician's Staff due to symptoms.
In Famagusta we have 3 patients, one of whom in the Increased Care Unit and in Nicosia a patient intubated in the ICU.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- From a program carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order for the control of staff working on the premises of the Courts, we had a result for 1 sample, and
- From the student control program, a laboratory examination was carried out.
Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of positive cases is 1,474.
In addition, three COVID-19 patients were admitted to Famagusta General Hospital yesterday and three COVID-19 patients are being treated in a ward, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit. In the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, a patient is hospitalized.
