Canada Summer 2013: McGill University
August 15, 2013 -- Montreal's McGill University was founded in 1821 by Glasgow, Scotland native James McGill. I had the chance to walk around the historic ground at the foot of Mount Royal in downtown Montreal.
In 2012, Travel & Leisure Magazine ranked McGill's campus as one of the 17 most beautiful university campuses in the world. A visit to the 79-acre campus confirms this rating.
More than 38,000 students take courses at McGill, which is ranked as the number one medical-doctoral university in Canada and 21st in the world.
According to Wikipedia, McGill has an impressive list of alumni: "Notable alumni include nine Nobel Laureates (overall, twelve Nobel laureates are affiliated with the university), one hundred and thirty-four Rhodes Scholars (more than any other Canadian university), three astronauts, two Canadian prime ministers, twelve justices of the Canadian Supreme Court, four foreign leaders, twenty-eight foreign ambassadors, nine Academy Award winners, three Pulitzer Prize winners, and twenty-eight Olympic medalists. McGill alumni were instrumental in inventing or initially organizing football, basketball, and ice hockey.
