Situated on the outskirts of Tala, on the approach road from Emba, Stephanie Restaurant is the oldest restaurant in the village.  Stephanie Restaurant was established in 1989 and is owned and run by Savva and Irene Kyriakou, with Savva providing the front of house service and Irene as the chef.  Both have been professionally trained.

The restaurant has an extensive indoor seating area, with a covered outdoor terrace for summer dining.  The restaurant is also ideal for weddings, anniversaries and other parties, comfortably catering for up to 70 people.

The restaurant is open during high season Monday to Saturday, but generally Tuesday to Saturday  7pm to 11.30pm and for Sunday lunch from 1pm to 4.30pm.  All food is cooked to order and fresh potatoes and vegetables are used.

An extensive menu is offered, from a range of cold and hot starters, to omelettes and salads, with a good selection of fish dishes and an excellent fish meze.  For meat lovers the usual Cypriot specialities are available [Moussaka, Afelia, Stifado, Kleftico, etc] and a meat meze. All of these are excellent, but the speciality of the house is steak, only top fillet steak is served.  The restaurant also offers a children’s menu and a selection for vegetarians.

For those with a sweet tooth, there are ice creams and flambes on offer,  strawberries [when in season], yoghurt with honey and a cake of the day.

A good wine list is available including the option of an excellent house white or red and there is always a brandy or a choice of liqueur on the house to complete your meal.

Sunday lunch is a leisurely affair.  There is a choice of soup of the day or melon, followed by roast pork, lamb, beef or chicken.  Check when booking as the meat offered varies from week to week.  All are accompanied with fresh vegetables and roast potatoes.  A sweet is then offered followed by coffee and a brandy or a choice of liqueur on the house.  During Sunday lunch, all local bottled wines, a Cypriot sparkling wine and a carafe of house white or red wine are offered at discounted prices.  The price is €14.25 per person, with children at half price.

The restaurant is HACCP [Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points] Certified.  This rather technical jargon basically means that all food is sourced, prepared and presented under strict rules of cleanliness and hygiene.  The restaurant closes during the winter for approximately two months, during which period the kitchen and dining areas are thoroughly cleaned – all kitchen equipment is moved outside for steam cleaning.

10 Days of Thanksgiving: Day 1, 2 & 3

Lately, I have so many things going around in my head that I cannot make them settle coherently. This is good timing though, since last year I joined up with Lisa to do the 10 Days of Thanksgiving and it's about that time again! Like last year, I will not necessarily do one a day, but there WILL be 10 things! You can see the ones I did last year here. Also like last year, I am a little late to the party. That's the way it goes in November, I guess. The first three are kind of a theme... Here they are: Things I am thankful for this year, number 1, 2 and 3!

1. Where I Live

The neighborhood

This year I am lucky to be in the Bay Area, where the weather is perfect running weather all year round. No matter what you like to do, it is here. Within walking distance, there are restaurants, grocery stores, running trails, art, wine and easy biking paths. It is all here! There is something for everyone and the everyones are varied. I like having varied everyones around me.

2. Great Food

Pancakes at La Note

Ethiopian? Vietnamese? Nepalese? Burmese? YES PLEASE! I love all the great ethnic food near me and let me tell you, I MISS that when I am working around the country. I get so tired of fried food and meat with gravy. I want a nice, steaming hot bowl of Pho! So that's great. My other favorite thing to do is Brunch. I have a list of places To Try that I am working on, albeit slowly! Some of my local favorites? Brown Sugar and Sams Log Cabin. This is up for change though! Any suggestions?

3. Places to Run

Huckleberry Preserve

This deserves a post all on it's own, but it is so nice to not only have a great neighborhood to run in, but also several paths nearby. Best of all, there are several parks with many, MANY different trails to run on. As you know, trail running is my favorite thing to do and I also think running hilly routes is better for you, is less monotonous and makes you stronger overall. So having these so near to me is pure BLISS. I don't ever want to live anywhere where I don't have trail access ever again!

What are you thankful for this year? What is your favorite thing about the area you live in?

Autumn Brown

Time to grab a beer!! This one is a new one for me. I live close to Chico, where the Sierra Nevada Brewery is, but have never tried this Autumn Brown Ale (photo credit). I think I would like it, as it looks dark enough for my tastes. Hmmm..

You know the drill. This is the point where we grab a beverage, make yourself comfortable and enjoy a recap of the week (a la Kim's Look What I Did Last Week).

This week was a busy one. I had the day off on Monday, so the (short) work week was more hectic than normal. Plus we are trying to finish up work in the area we are in and will be moving to a new area on Monday. So of course this week has consisted of tying up a bunch of loose ends and finding out at the last minute what the issues with certain projects are. Monday will be the last meeting and then we are out of here!

On top of that, I have been training for the marathon and so have spent most of my evenings running, running, showering, driving to running and....washing running clothes. But...in between all that, here is what else I did this week.

I got more books from the library. My stack is growing.

Beware of the Evil Gost.

The running shorts get funkier and funkier!

I went to New York. I love New York. Really, not just the I heart kind but REALLY.

We went to Le Parisien for dinner. Yum.

I couldn't resist. Pluck U too buddy.

We met a friend at Zabars for some cheese shopping. I love cheese.
Almost as much as I love New York.

We went to see the Freedom Tower. Expected to be done in...2021.

And of course, no trip to NYC is complete without a trip to Central Park.

Goodbye New York. I will miss you.

Or should I say...Until Next Time.
You can read about some of my other trips to NYC HERE

What is your favorite place to visit in the Fall? Do you have a place you keep going back to over and over? Do YOU heart NY? What did you do this week?
