More than 16.62 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 655,583​ have died, according to a Reuters tally.

Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.

Cases have been reported from:

Africa: 860 452 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are South Africa (452 529), Egypt (92 482), Nigeria (41 180), Ghana (33 624) and Algeria (27 973).

Asia: 3 908 711 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are India (1 483 156), Iran (293 606), Pakistan (275 225), Saudi Arabia (268 934) and Turkey (227 019).

America: 8 849 484 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are United States (4 290 263), Brazil (2 442 375), Mexico (395 489), Peru (389 717) and Chile (347 923).

Europe: 2 829 660 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are Russia (818 120), United Kingdom (300 111), Spain (278 782), Italy (246 286) and Germany (206 242).

Oceania: 16 704 cases; the five countries reporting most cases are Australia (14 935), New Zealand (1 207), Guam (349), French Polynesia (62) and Papua New Guinea (62).

Other: 696 cases have been reported from an international conveyance in Japan.

Deaths have been reported from:

Africa: 18 167 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are South Africa (7 067), Egypt (4 652), Algeria (1 163), Nigeria (860) and Sudan (720).

Asia: 90 035 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are India (33 425), Iran (15 912), Pakistan (5 865), Turkey (5 630) and Indonesia (4 838).

America: 342 800 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are United States (148 011), Brazil (87 618), Mexico (44 022), Peru (18 418) and Chile (9 187).

Europe: 202 663 deaths; the five countries reporting most deaths are United Kingdom (45 759), Italy (35 112), France (30 209), Spain (28 434) and Russia (13 354).

Oceania: 190 deaths; the 4 countries reporting deaths are Australia (161), New Zealand (22), Guam (5) and Northern Mariana Islands (2).

Other: 7 deaths have been reported from an international conveyance in Japan.
