TAXISnet OPENS SOON FOR E-DECLARATIONS FOR 2019 [submission by 30 October]

Filenews 30 July 2020 -Theano Thiopoulou

Taxpayers will have until now to complete and submit their tax return electronically for 2019 until 30 October, while taxisnet's online portal with tax applications and self-taxation is expected to open from day to day.

Yesterday, the Department of Taxation announced that 30 October 2020 at 23:59 is the last date for the submission of the 2019 income statement for employees and pensioners and for self-employed persons without audited accounts. It is also the date of payment of the tax due, which is likely to result from the self-tax.

The Tax Department informs that tax returns will soon be available for electronic submission and TAXISnet users will receive notice at the e-mail address they have declared for TAXISnet (TAXISnet email address) purposes. According to information, the fact that the exact date on which applications will be opened has not yet been announced is due to the new data obtained from the GHSY and the continuous tests carried out for the smooth operation of the electronic platform.

The Tax Department also informs taxpayers that emails received, which refer to a deadline other than the one mentioned above, do not relate to official correspondence from the Department and invites the public to ignore them. Please note that the Tax Department officially communicates only through e-mail addresses that end in: @tax.mof.gov.cy. Based on the Statistics of the Department, the employee income declarations for 2019 through a taxinet system were 258,410 and in paper form 3,980 (in paper form only declarations are received for tax years/periods that did not apply the mandatory electronic submission of returns). The employee income statement (with accounts) was 74, the self-employed income statement (without accounts) was 31,721 through a taxinet system and 658 in paper form. The self-employed income statement (with accounts) was 5,011, the company income statement 87,220 through a taxinet system and 3,713 in paper form.

The Tax Department also informs that within the framework of the continuous improvement of the Tax Portal, debts created by the taxpayer, which were not properly registered through the Portal, can now be written off. Details of how to write off debts can be found in the guide posted on the Tax Portal under the thematic "Help" entitled "How to write off a debt I created".

Postscript - Whilst there has been no change in the law to make submission of  nil tax returns compulsory, the Tax Department suggest that everyone should submit a declaration, even if it is Nil.
