Vehicle crushed and the owner sentenced to 30 days in prison.
The relevant decision of the Larnaca District Court, concerning the destruction of a vehicle which
had undergone significant alterations in violation of relevant legislation, was implemented today.
Specifically, on December 5, 2019, members of ADE Larnaca stopped for inspection a car driven by a
27-year-old man. During the inspection, it was found that the 27-year-old was driving with a driver's
licence and without a safety certificate.
Both the driver and his car were taken to Larnaca Traffic where a check found that the car had
undergone various mechanical modifications such as the change of engine without permission
from the Motor Vehicles Commissioner, while the chassis indicating the chassis number was cut and
welded again, resulting in no proof of vehicle identity and deemed unfit for use.
The next day, December 6, 2019, the Police went to court for a vehicle retention issue, which was
accepted.
The case was taken to the Court of Justice where its hearing was concluded on 11 June 2020.
The Larnaca District Court sentenced the 27-year-old to four months' deprivation of a driving
licence and a 30-day prison sentence after finding him guilty of the offences of driving a motor
vehicle with a denied driving licence, driving without a safety certificate as well as voluntary
mechanical modifications to the vehicle, and further ordering the destruction of the
vehicle.
This vehicle was today transferred to an approved vehicle destruction site where it was executed in
the relevant decree of the Court of Justice.
