20. yy.da meydana gelen I. ve II. Dünya Savaşlarında milyonlarca insan yaşamını yitirmiş, binlerce insan sakat kalmış ve telafisi imkânsız büyük maddi zararlar meydana gelmiştir. Bu olumsuz durumun bir daha yaşanmaması için çeşitli siyasi örgütler kurulmuştur. İlk olarak 1. Dünya Savası'ndan sonra Cemiyet-i Akvam kurulmuş fakat bu cemiyet II. Dünya Savaşı'nın yaşanmasına engel olamamıştır.
II. Dünya Savası'ndan sonra başta BM olmak üzere birçok uluslararası siyasi, askerî ve ekonomik örgüt kurulmuştur.
