DR KARAGIANNIS - THERE ARE 3 INCIDENT CHAINS IN LARNACA

 Filenews 18 September 2020

"Most cases of coronavirus in Cyprus are no longer imported, but domestically from expanding chains," said Professor of Microbiology, Dr. Petros Karagiannis, speaking on the show "Morning Route".

He noted that one chain has now risen to 16 incidents and the other 2 number from 4 to 5 people, noting that the conflicts are currently in the Larnaca area. It worries me a little bit, maybe we have the same image that we had in Limassol at the beginning of August and that's where we now have to focus,"dr. Karagiannis.

After pointing out that the large chain was created by a person who had symptoms and was not examined in time, thus transmitting it to the mother and then extending it elsewhere, he noted that it is therefore good to examine it in time.

Asked to comment on children's discomfort due to the mask in schools, Dr . Karagiannis indicated that we should get used to the mask. "The poor childrenin Wuhan wore them from morning to night - and very young children - not 12s or more," he said.

As far as teachers are concerned, Dr Karagiannis pointed out that "they have to take off the masks not for the whole period, but where they need to be understood. That is the recommendation."

He then talked about finding a safe vaccine for Covid-19, expressing the view that things are going very well. "In total there are 6 vaccines that are in a very good stage. In China and Russia, even before the results of the 3rd phase studies, testing has already begun. AstraZeneca seems to have found that the incident, for which it stopped testing, was not due to the vaccine," said Dr. Karagiannis.

He then expressed the position that vaccinations would start earlier than 6 months, namely from January.

As for the sufficient amount of vaccines, Dr . Karagiannis pointed out "that no matter what happens there will not be enough vaccines to vaccinate the entire population of the earth. Secondly, I do not think that everyone will want to be vaccinated, because there are the naysayers."

He went on to say that "and if the vaccine comes out, the virus will be among us. It is therefore necessary to vaccinate the elderly, vulnerable groups, pregnant women and those working in hospitals. From then on, if vaccines are available, anyone who wants to can do it. What hasn't been clarified yet, but I see it coming is that it will take two doses to get high levels of antibodies. So it's probably a double-dose vaccine.
