CORONAVIRUS - NEW DEATH AND TWO NEW CASES TODAY

Today the death of a male patient, aged 77, with a serious medical history who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital is announced. Death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. Therefore, the total number of deaths in SARS-CoV-2-positive patients amounts to 28, and deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 are 21, 15 men and 6 women, with an average age of 73 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, out of a total of 2,646 laboratory diagnoses, 2 new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 751 samples taken through a private initiative, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 97 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 1 case was identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated checks, 1,471 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 179 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 98 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken at the barricades, 47 laboratory tests were completed,
  • Of the samples taken by the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 2 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From a program carried out by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order to check the staff working on the premises of the Courts, we had a result for 1 sample.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,490.

In addition, five COVID-19 patients are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, including one in the Increased Care Unit. He was discharged yesterday. In the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, a patient is still being treated intubated.
