PERMISSION OF ENTRY OF DOMESTIC WORKERS INTO CYPRUS

It is permissible to grant a special permit for entry into the Republic of persons who obtain a permit to work in the Republic as domestic helpers, in accordance with the Infectious Diseases Decree (No. 40) issued by the Minister of Health Konstantinos Ioannou.

In accordance with the Regulations, with effect from 25 September 2020, special authorisation for such persons shall be granted following approval by the Commission, as defined by the Decision of the Council of Ministers of 17 June 2020, by countries not falling within Categories A and B, as notified by the Ministry of Health, subject to the following conditions:

(a) The entry permit shall be granted on the basis of the order in which the application is submitted, which shall be entered in an electronic register kept by the Ministry of the Interior;

(b) employers shall advance the cost of accommodation of the above persons, for their mandatory restriction in tourist accommodation with which the Ministry of Tourism has contracted, for a mandatory restriction for a total period of 14 days from the date of their arrival and the cost of carrying out two laboratory tests for the COVID-19 Coronavirus (one test upon arrival and a repeat test 12 days after their arrival).

It is understood that the total resulting costs associated with employers are calculated by the Ministry of the Interior in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism. It is further provided that workers who fall within the provisions of this Regulation personally cover the cost of transporting them to these tourist accommodation.

This Decree shall enter into force immediately by its publication in the Official Journal of the Republic.
