JOEP [ARTIST]

Well known painter, born in 1951 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and now resident in Tala Cyprus. His career has always been within the music and film environment, in The Netherlands as well as abroad. 

Joep has been painting for 20 years and is entirely self-taught. With his inexorable desire to create his images, he has developed a unique style which is instantly recognisable as the artist’s signature. The paintings are mainly abstract and generally portray images set in a group with particular emphasis given to their surroundings.

The paintings summon the observer to use their powers of imagination to explore and interpret the meaning behind each individual canvas. Oils and acrylic resin are used on a linen canvas thus creating dynamic and intense colours.  The simplicity of the abstract designs identifies Joep’s own particularly unique style which he has exhibited in many locations in his native Holland, which are renowned on the art circuit in the Netherlands.

Joep designed wine-labels for “the Art Collection” collaborating with the Tsangarides Winery in Lemona.
His art can be seen in Cyprus at the Dutch Embassy, the International school and the Town Hall of Paphos .Those venues have all purchased paintings. You can also see Joep’s fine display of paintings in our environment and of course at his home and shop in Tala where he creates his art and special commissions.

He is always looking for new venues to exhibit his work, so if you feel your establishment would benefit from his work he will be more than happy to talk with you.

TALA WELFARE CENTRE

Open Monday to Friday [closed public holidays] from 0800 to 1230.    Coffee or soft drink plus snack.   Membership available at €30 per couple, or €20 a single person which entitles you to a free drink and snack each day that the centre is open, use of the facilities, and opportunity to go on activities arranged, either free of charge or at subsidised cost.

Monday – Craft morning – knitting, crocheting, beadmaking - from 1000 to 1115
Tuesday – Exercise class [not during the hot summer months] - 1030
Friday   -   Exercise class [not during the hot summer months] - 1030


Hand knitted and crocheted goods, and hand-made beads and earrings are available for sale [any profit made goes towards the running costs of the centre].

The exercise classes are intended for older people and most of the exercises are done whilst seated.

If you are not a member, you are welcome to pop in for a coffee and snack - there is an honesty jar for donations.

Open terrace at the rear of the premises for use in the warmer months.

Sunday lunch [extensive buffet with range of starters, roast pork &/or beef, souvla, with usual accompaniments, large choice of deserts, coffee and free liqueur] served from 1pm.  €15 pp.

On Friday night [from June until the end of September, 7.30pm onwards] there is a special BBQ evening, with live music and dancers.    BBQ offers a selection of salads and dips, usual range of BBQ items, lamb kleftiko, traditional Cyprus dishes and selection of vegetables and jacket potatoes, followed by loukamades. Price €15 pp, with children under 12 at €10.
