Centaurea Kirmacii - Akdeniz'in Yeni Endemik Bitkisi
Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Buharkent Meslek Yüksek Okulu'ndan Dr. Öğretim Üyesi Metin Armağan Botanik dünyasına yeni bir bitki türünü kaydetti. Dr. Armağan, keşfettiği bitkiye Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi Biyoloji Bölümü öğretim üyelerinden 'Doç. Dr. Mesut Kırmacı'nın adını verdi. (Centaurea Kirmacii)

Mevcut verilere göre, sadece Muğla'nın Kavaklıdere ilçesinin Gökçukur yaylasında, kızılçam ormanının açıklıklarında kireçtaşı kayalıkları üzerinde yetişen bitki "Centaurea Kirmacii" ismiyle literatüre kaydedildi.
Konuyla ilgili yaptığı açıklamada Dr. Öğretim Üyesi Metin Armağan, "Gösterişli çiçeklere sahip bir cins olan Centaurea L. (Peygamber çiçeği), yüzde 58 düzeyinde yüksek endemizm oranı ve 200 civarında tür sayısıyla Türkiye için önemli bir tabii zenginliktir. Son yapılan çalışmalar, Centaurea'nın çeşitlilik merkezinin Türkiye olduğunu göstermektedir. Yeni keşfedilen Centaurea kirmacii, sadece bölgesel tip olarak bilinen Akdeniz'e özgü yerel bir endemik türdür" diye konuştu.
Sherlock Holmes of the 87th Precinct
Meyer Meyer criticizes fellow detective Bert Kling for reading a book on the job instead of working.
“I amworking,” Kling protests. “These are stories of the deductive method.”
“The what?”
“Of detection. Haven’t you ever heard of Sherlock Holmes?”
“Everybody’s heard of Sherlock Holmes,” another detective interjects.
So it goes in an early chapter of Ed McBain’s The Heckler, the 12th book in his 87thPrecinct police procedural series. Written in 1960, it’s also the first novel to feature McBain’s “Moriarty,” a methodical criminal known only as “the deaf man.”
Later, the deaf man pulls a ploy straight out of the pages of “The Red-Headed League,” which is mentioned by name, when he places an ad for redheads to model women’s dresses. “No experience necessary.”
The Victorian world of Sherlock Holmes of Baker Street is far removed from McBain’s fictional big city Isola in the twentieth. And yet, the influence of the Great Detective is obvious even there.
Fifteen years later, McBain (legal name Evan Hunter) would write a tongue-in-cheek introduction to A Study in Scarlet in which he defended Scotland Yard and argued that Holmes should have been arrested for bribing Constable Rance.
But Holmes foiled Moriarty. It was a patrolman, not the 87th Precinct detectives who are the collective heroes of McBain’s series, that defeated the deaf man.

Police seek the following person to facilitate investigations into an alleged money laundering case involving a fraudulent offense committed in February 2018 in Nicosia.
The wanted person is called Glafkos Andreou, 56, residing in Limassol.

The above offenses were committed between December 24 and 25, 2017, in Limassol.

POLICE DOG SQUAD SERVICE TO MAINTAIN PUBLIC ORDER

While an Animal Police Force is in the making, the Police is setting up a Police Dog Squad Service for security and public order purposes. The establishment of the Service is provided by a bill prepared by the Ministry of Justice and its operation and staffing is provided for in relevant regulations.
The members of the newly established Police Dog Squad Service will be appointed by the Chief of Police. The Service will have a Head and its members will undergo special training. The use of police dogs will be done solely by members of the Police who are appointed as members of the relevant Service.
The squad service dogs will be used in stadiums, demonstrations, public gatherings, protests, etc. The police already has crackdown service dogs at its disposition such as trackers, rescuers and drug and explosive tracers, which will now also be used under this Service.
Issues relating to the operational use, care, living conditions and care of police dogs are managed by a relevant police order.
It is also provided that police dogs meet training levels imposed by certified dog training centres.
It is further specified that the regulations for the Police Dog Squad Service does not affect the use of other police dogs for the purposes of tracing, searching for missing persons, identifying explosives, firearms and non-firearms as well as identifying drugs.
Additionally, the provision and origin of the police dogs is carried out with the approval of the Minister, following a suggestion from the Chief of Police and based on an assessment of the Service needs.
Finally, as stated in regulations, Police members who assume the role of trainer or user of police dogs are trained by a certified training centre and meet the training requirements set by the centre.

NEW COASTAL FOOTPATH FOR KISSONERGA

A new footpath constructed on part of the Kissonerga coastline is due to get underway next year, according to local officials.
“Our target is to get this project underway in 2019, which will boost tourism in the area and will also be lovely for locals to use as well,” George Stylianou. Community leader of Kissonerga told the Cyprus Mail.
The pedestrian path has been planned for the last ten years and will be constructed from a combination of materials, said Stylianou, including stone and concrete.
Although there are no plans available yet, he noted that the walkway will be around 2.5km in length and will run between Potima Bay- the site of the highly anticipated Paphos Marina- and the Atlantic Hotel.
Stylianou said the community was still waiting to be informed as to when the marina project will get underway and a ‘review deadline’ of all of the papers relating to the proposed new development of the marina would take place on October 24.
A convoluted bid process has seen the new marina being passed from developer to developer, a ‘final decision’ saw the project given to Pafilia.
However, as there has been so much ‘to-ing and fro-ing’ in recent years, he said and that the community will believe it when contracts are signed and the project gets underway.
The bid for the marina was contested at various stages by the three main interested parties for more than a decade. Once completed, the lucrative marina will provide a much-needed boost in investment and tourism for the area, he said.
In the meantime, Stylianou said that at least with the new coastal path due to get underway soon, this is a move in the right direction.
The project will come with a price tag of around €300,000, the cost of which will be split 50/50 between Kissonerga and the Paphos district office, he said.
“We are being granted the money from a special fund and our contribution, one hundred and fifty thousand, will be included in our budget for next year,” he said,
He said the project was an important one for the area, as it will further enhance the tourist product and also encourage people to visit one of the most stunning parts of coastline in Paphos.
The pathway will eventually join all of the hotels in the area with Potima Bay.
Kissonerga is also well known with visitors for its banana plantations and a rare and important Chalcolithic settlement, which lasted for about a millennium (3500-2500 BCE).
Artifacts and other evidence suggest that a powerful fertility goddess was worshipped there and some of the round houses of the village have been reconstructed .
Once underway, the coastal pathway project is expected to take three months to complete.
İklim Değişikliğinin Enerji Harcamalarındaki Etkileri
Günümüzün doğal felaketlerinin en başında gelen ve birçok insanın küresel ısınma olarak bildiği, "Küresel İklim Değişikliği" enerji üretim şeklimizi, kullanım alanlarımızı ve ihtiyaç miktarımızı derin ve geri dönülemez bir şekilde değiştirmektedir.
Yukarıdaki resime bakınca aslında insanların neden küresel ısınma dediğini biraz anlayabilirsiniz. Özellikle Türkiye gibi orta kuşakta yaşayan insanlar iklimin her sene daha da düşünebiliyorlar. Çünkü gerçekten de sıcaklık ortalamalarında bir artış görülüyor. Özellikle gündüz maksimum sıcaklıkları ve gece minimum sıcaklıkları ciddi biçimde artmış durumda. Ortalama her ne kadar 1.5-2 derecelik bir artış meydana gelse de bu maksimum ve minimum sıcaklıkların derecelerindeki artış daha sıcak hissedilen mevsimlerin ortaya çıkmasına sebep olmaktadır.
Ancak bu yazımda iklim değişikliğinin nasıl anlaşıldığından ziyade iklim değişikliğinin enerji harcamalarımızdaki etkisinden bahsetmem gerekiyor. Çünkü benden önce binlerce kez iklim değişikliğinin sıcaklıklar üzerindeki etkisinden bahseden olmuştur.
İklim değişikliği ile ortaya çıkan en önemli sorun olan sıcaklık artışları insanların doğal olarak soğutma sistemlerine yüklenmelerine neden olmaktadır. Günümüzde en basitinden bir ortam soğutucusu(klima) içerisindeki gazı sıkıştıran motorun çalışması için 1000 Watt enerjiye ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Saatte yaktığı 1 Kw enerji, bu gereksinimin toplam maliyeti konusunda size fikir verecektir. Eskiye nazaran daha fazla mekana monte edilen ve daha fazla süre boyunca çalıştırılan bu makineler enerji ihtiyacımızı önemli ölçüde artırmaktadırlar. Bununla birlikte enerji üretim ve iletim yükümlülüklerinde de artış meydana gelmektedir. Meydana gelen bu ekstra maliyetler milletleri yeni arayışlara sürüklemektedir. Öyle ki iklim değişikliği konusu popüler olmadan önce ortaya atılan "yenilenebilir enerji" kaynağı kullanım fikirlerine nazaran günümüzde neredeyse 100 katına çıkan bir yatırım piyasası ortaya çıkmıştır.
Yüksek kullanım seviyelerine ulaşıldığından dolayı insanlar da en ucuz enerji üreticisine yönelmeye başlamışlardır. Henüz ülkemizde yaygınlaşmasa bile birçok Avrupa ülkesinde görülen serbest elektrik tüketicisi modeli bunun en büyük göstergesidir. Bu model sayesinde insanlar, elektrik ihtiyaçlarını, devletin yüksek maliyetli fosil elektrik üretim tesislerinden değil özel şirket ve kişilere bağlı olan yenilenebilir enerji şirketlerinden karşılamaya başlamışlardır. Bu durumun asıl sebebi yenilenebilir enerji üretmenin temelde daha düşük maddi yük bindirmesidir. İlk kurulum bedellerinin yüksek olduğu yenilenebilir enerji santralleri ülkemiz gibi gelişmekte olan ve sermaye sıkıntısı çeken ülkelerde pek gündemde değildir. Yinede dünya enerji ihtiyacının yaklaşık %30'unu içeren Avrupa'da bu durumun gözlenmesi küresel enerji tüketimi konusunda etkili sonuçlar doğurmaktadır.
Yukarıda bahsettiğim sebepler genelde artan ihtiyaçları ortaya koymaktadır. Ancak artan sıcaklıklar yaz aylarının tersine kış aylarında daha az enerji tüketiminin ortaya çıkmasını sağlamaktadır.
Yine bu maddeye de yukarıda bahsettiğim gibi eklemeler yapılabilir.
Toparlamak gerekirse küresel iklim değişikliği sonucunda ortaya çıkan sıcaklık artışlarından dolayı soğutma maliyetlerinin artışı enerji ihtiyacının artmasına ve dolaylı olarak diğer maliyetlerin artmasına neden olurken kış aylarındaki sıcaklık artışı ısıtma maliyetlerinin azalmasını sağlamaktadır. Ancak kış aylarında azalan enerji ihtiyacı yaz aylarında artan enerji ihtiyacına oranla çok az seviyelerde kaldığından ve kış aylarında eskiye nazaran ani ve çok düşük sıcaklıklar görüldüğünden dolayı iklim değişikliği toplam enerji ihtiyacını artırmıştır. Yine bunlara ek olarak yaz aylarında aniden görülen sıcaklık düşüşleri ve fırtınalar hem maddi zarar vermekte hem de enerji giderlerinin artmasına sebep olmaktadır.
Biraz dağınık bir yazı oldu ancak konuyu kısmen de olarak aktarmaya çalıştım, ilerleyen çalışmalarımda daha detaylı iletmeye çalışacağım.
